Her killer was Richard John Davis who died in 1997.

The Robison family murders - a suspect no one noticed?

Last year I wrote a lengthy article on my website about this case, most of which will be familiar to anyone who has read through the posts on this site. However, on reading through the Michigan State Police report (which was kindly provided by either AK Wilks or Doranchak, my apologies for forgetting who originally posted it) , I came across an interesting section that bears more examination. In fact, it points to someone who should surely be considered a suspect - Shirly Robison's brother Marvin Fulton. Firstly, we have 3 indications that the killer may have returned to the cabin after the murders. This casts more doubt on Joseph Scolaro being the killer. 1) Gardener Russell Figg confirmed that a light was on the cabin when he knocked on the door the morning after (26th June). This light was later turned off by someone before the police arrived or the bulb blew in the interim. 2) The noted taped to the door and seen by Figg (with his young helper) was later moved to the window to cover a bullet hole. This is confirmed in the police report:

3) A red Volkswagen car was seen parked at the cabin on 4th July, verified by two witnesses. This, too, appears in the police report. Note the sentence: "There is a striking resemblance between a VW and the model Opal driven by ".

The police report states that later in July the same witnesses saw the same red car parked in the cottage driveway a few days after the murders were reported. This time they managed to trace the owner - Marvin Fulton. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the REDACTED name above is Marvin Fulton. He told police he was collecting a canoe he had lent to Shirley. We don't know what kind of relationship the siblings had, but that behaviour does not sound right to me in the days following a distressing murder. However, it also seems to confirm that Marvin Fulton visited the cottage before the bodies were discovered. Either that, or he was very unlucky that the killer was driving a very similar car. This could be brushed off as mere coincidence - until we read about his guns. Now, I admit this is slight conjecture as there are some redactions on this page of the report. But there appears to be enough information present to implicate Marvin Fulton's weapons, if not the man himself, in the murders. Here is the relevant page :

Note the following information: 1) The top left of the report says "Guns registered to Marvin Fulton". 2) the word 'SUSPECT' typed below the list of guns. 3) The sentence: is a to Mrs Shirley Robison. These missing words could be 'FULTON' and 'BROTHER'. 4) The results of the test conclude that "...the lands and grooves of the weapons registered to are the same as the weapons used in this murder." (my emphasis) Given that the title of the report is "Guns registered to Marvin Fulton", I think it's a reasonable assumption to believe that the redacted name in point four is one and the same. As far as I can tell, this is pretty damning stuff. I can find no further reference to any ongoing investigation into Marvin Fulton.

Bricca High Tech Family Murders + Percy + Sims+ Cyanide

Starting September 18, 1966, three high tech families were attacked, rape nor robbery were the motives. The motive appeared to be murder. What linked the families were the the husbands/fathers were all involved in high tech. The Percy home was attacked September 18, 1966, and it is very likely the entire family would have been killed, but Valerie's screams caused the mother to hit the burglar alarm, causing the attacker to flee. The Bricca family, Monsanto chemical engineer Gerald Bricca, wife Linda and daughter Debbie, were likely killed on September 27, 1966. Three years later Zodiac would attack Shepard and Hartnell, and 16 years later, someone, very likely Ted Kaczynski, would place Tylenol bottles filled with Cyanide on suburban Chicago store shelves. On October 22, 1966, nationally recognized computer expert Sims and his wife and daughter were killed. based on information I gave them, the Bricca detectives issued a press release naming the Zodiac Killer as a new suspect in the Bricca case. The company Gerald Bricca worked for, Monsanto, is one of the very few companies specifically named by Ted Kaczynski as being a major target. Ted identified Monsanto as the leading firm for biotechnology and genetic engineering, which Ted viewed as the biggest danger to humanity. He advised fellow primitivist anarchists to "hit were it hurts", by targeting biotech firms, specifically mentioning Monsanto as the leading target. He notes how difficult it is to train engineers, so they should be "discouraged" from going into the biotech field. By "discourage" he means murder. Robert Sims was a "nationally recognized" "computer expert". Like Gerald Bricca, his wife and daughter were also murdered, and both families were tied by household objects and gagged with socks in their mouths.

Spinelli, Edmond Mann,& Benicia Murders on LHR anniversary

This was an odd thing I found. Just kind of tugged at me. I was researching a POI mentioned in Zodiac reports, Edmond Virgil Mann DOB 3/3/49 That led me down a rabbit hole, I could find next to nothing on him. Then I finally found an article stating he had been shot in the head in 1979. Additionally, that article mentioned him likely NOT being connected to a Benicia set of murders that happened on 12/20/79(anniversary of LHR) In the article, there is mention of 'Spinelli' which is name that has come up in this case. Odd violence, odd date. Maybe coincidence?

Boles Family Murders Crestline, CA 1965

On August 13, 1965, the Boles Family, a father, mother and two sons, were murdered in Crestline, California. The father was an aerospace engineer for Hughes Aircraft. Aside from making aircraft, Hughes Aircraft was involved with computers, the Defense Department, the space program and satellites. Thus the Boles Family Murders would fit the possible pattern of "High Tech Murders", which could include Joyce Walker (November 26,1963, Manhattan Beach, Ca, employee at Space Technologies Laboratory, involved in missiles and spy satellites) Valerie Percy (Suburban Chicago, Sept. 16, 1966, father worked for Bell & Howell, maker of computer like business machines and cameras for military aircraft & space program), the Bricca Family (Suburban Cincinnati, Sept. 27, 1966, father Jerry Bricca was chemical engineer at Monsanto & Linda Bricca's father owned company with Defense Dept. contracts), Sims Family (October 22, 1966, Florida, father was as press noted a "nationally recognized computer expert") and Robison Family (Michigan, June 25, 1966, father's company was working on announced plan to clear forests near airports to build computerized warehouses for air cargo business). Cheri Bates father worked at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory. Also of interest, the Boles Family Murders cabin in Crestline, Ca, is just 27 miles to the Bates murder scene in Riverside, ca, and 92 miles to the Joyce Walker murder site in Manhattan Beach, Ca. At the old ZKS board, Morf noted the Boles Family Murders in Crestline is also just 15 miles from San Bernardino, site of the school of Patricia Hautz and Zodiac POI or more likely possible classmate of Zodiac nicknamed "Zode" aka MLZ. The Boles family were killed by .22 LR bullets, same types as used at possible Zodiac murder of Domingos & Edwards Santa Barbara 6/4/63, Zodius murder of Robison Family 6/25/68 and Zodiac murder of Faraday & Jensen 12/20/68. Police in the Boles case determined that the gun used had six right twists and grooves and the pistol used was most likely a High Standard, sold at Sears as a JC Higgins. Police in Zodius Robison Family Michigan murders on 6/25/68 and Zodiac Faraday & Jensen California murders on 12/20/68 also determined weapon used had six right twists and grooves, with most likely pistol being used was also a JC Higgins. Darlene Boles was found on top of one of her sons, and she either did this on purpose to shield her son or was placed on top of him. The female was also placed on top of the male in Domingos & Edwards, California 6/4/63, Bricca Family Murders, Ohio September 27, 1966 and Robison Family murders, Michigan 6/25/68. Boles Family: Boles Murder cabin in Crestline is 92 miles to Walker murder site in Manhattan Beach, and 27 miles to Bates murder site in Riverside: Boles murder site in Crestline is 15 miles to San Bernardino, site of school of Patricia Hautz, probable writer of letter to press in Bates case, and "Zode", possible POI or more likely possible classmate of Zodiac. The bodies of the Bricca family were found on September 27, 1966. October 30, 1966 Cheri Jo Bates was murdered. Her father worked at a Naval Weapons facility. I mean, perhaps 2% or less of the population would have worked in these industries? It seems odd that all of these victims would have such ties.

The Robisons More Compelling Than You Don't Remember

The Robison family murders are the number 2 most likely unverified Zodiac attack after Cheri Jo. Change my mind. I looked at this case about a year ago, and I was intrigued by the name "Zodius", but ultimately I was unimpressed. Now, thanks to AK Wilks, my eyes have been opened, not to Ted, I'm not going there, but to this being a better Zodiac crime than you don't remember. It seems I didn't look far enough into it and I wonder if others have made the same mistake? I had a fundamental misunderstanding about what had occurred regarding the tipster's letter and after having this understanding corrected, by AK Wilks, I now find the case far more compelling. More compelling in fact than any other possible Zodiac attack, with the exception of Bates. Looking only at the evidence available, on paper, to me it looks a lot better than Domigos Edwards, or Ray Davis, and a damn sight better than any of the others. So I'm wondering why there's so little love for this case? I'll explain my misunderstanding of the case, as I think it may be part of the reason others have dismissed it. The case has been discussed on various threads, but in many of these threads a key detail is often obscured. Most discussions of the topic talk about how the police received a letter from a tipster, who wrote that they had information that they would reveal, if a classified ad, containing a cryptic message, was placed in the paper. Part of the message contained the name, or moniker, "Zodius". At the time it seemed curious, but police get loads of weird tips, so really I wasn't all that impressed. The problem is, that's not what happened according to a reporter. The police are quoted as saying that the letter from the tipster already contained information about the killing, information interesting enough to make police place the personal ad twice. AK Wilks has intimated that he has reason to believe the information provided to police, prior to any ads being placed, was of a nature only the killer would know. I would love to hear more about AK Wilks source, but I'm prepared to believe it, since the quote in the newspaper below seems to support this belief. I don't know about you, but I think that makes all the difference in the world. There is a big difference between a tip asking for a cryptic message to be published and a tip containing information about the murder and then saying more will be given, if the newspaper publishes the cryptic message. Do you see the difference? In the first scenario it could be any hoaxer, in the second it's probably the killer, and not just any killer, a very familiar one. It shows that this tipster was either the killer, or someone very close to them and I think if you read the subtext you'd have to agree that it probably wasn't his wife. Only the killer would behave like such a jackass in not just handing over all the information. What good would the cryptic classified ad do for an innocent informer? Notice I haven't mentioned the ammo being the same, or the stacking of bodies. I don't consider those things to be in the same league as the other evidence. Zodiac can buy whatever ammo he likes. What I consider special is the moniker and the penchant for cryptic messages in newspapers. When all we have in a case is ammo and MO, I can understand relying on those factors to inform our opinions, but to my mind evidence like a similar moniker and the writing of cryptic letters for publishing in a newspaper, just dwarfs these forms of evidence. I don't care if he beat them to death with a rubber duck if he called himself Zodius . We don't say about the Stine case, "well, he had a piece of Stine's shirt, buuuut it's not a .22 calibre, sooooo I guess it's a hoaxer?". The other striking part of the story is the report that a suspicious stranger by the name of Roebert called in the days prior to the attack and spoke in a distinctly "robotic" voice. This is in the police report and it seems it was an outstanding detail, since great pains are gone to to describe it's distinctive character. According to Scientific American, there are between 25 and 50 serial killers who are active in the United States at any given time. Of those 50, how many of them do you think would be using a moniker that contained the letters "Zodic"? Could be more than one, but I don't like those odds. People talk so enthusiastically about other cases simply because they happened at around the right period, in the right location and have a vaguely similar MO. I get looking in the Zodiacs backyard, but this case gets dismissed despite having circumstances that trivialize concerns over MO, and location. I know AK Wilks and others have written a lot about this already and I'm not trying to repeat those threads. I wanted to start a thread that looked at this case, but also as a larger conversation about how we go ranking evidence and comparing cases. I dismissed this case because it seemed superficially absurd, I mean Michigan, a whole family, some random tipster, some knock off Zodius? If it was our Z, why didn't he just go the whole hog and call himself "Zodiac", what's with cheap knock-off? But that was before I understood just how likely it is Zodius was the killer and that he, the killer, wrote a letter to police asking them to publish a cryptic message in the newspaper. I don't think that should even be call a coincidence, it's more accurate to say that it is favourably comparible to the Zodiac. Coincidence implies luck, or chance. This isn't chance, it's just flat out really really similar, but not quite the same. That's something else. Basically you have three reasonable options: 1) The whole thing is a prankster. The letter to the police didn't actually contain sensitive information. Since we don't have the letter, we can't assess the accuracy of the newspaper report. Forum members who claim the letter contained information only the killer could know are speculating. 2) The newspaper report is probably accurate and the subtext does imply the information received by police was likely from the killer, but there was simply two killers operating around the same time with a similar name. 3) The newspaper report is probably accurate and the subtext does imply the information received by police was likely from the killer. Barbara and Patricia grimes- unsolved double murder

Hi everyone, I haven’t seen this double unsolved murder of 2 sisters mentioned before so forgive me if they have been mentioned anywhere before, Barbara grimes 15 years old and her 13 year old younger sister Patricia leave their home to go to an elvis Presley concert, witnesses say they were at the concert but they never made it home and we’re not seen again this was December 17th 1956. On jan 22 1957 both bodies were found naked and deceased, the part I found eerily similar to other possible zodiac murders (domingos and edwards for instance and the mid west family murders) was that when the girls bodies were found Barbara’s body was laying face down and Patricia was laying face up but ON TOP of Barbara another interesting thing in this case is that Loretta Grimes (the girls mother) received suspicious phone calls in 1957 and in 1959 by the same unknown caller who said “I’m the one that undressed your girls” this happened in cook county Chicago Illinois 1956, obviously the things that sick out here are the stacking of bodies and the eerie phone calls after the girl’s deaths to the mother,

Vicki Miner, age 16, November 14, 1970 Buena Park, California Vicki Miner’s badly decomposed body was found in a vacant field near Malvern Avenue and Dale Street. Police determined that she had been bludgeoned to death. A student at Buena Park High School, Miner was last seen alive as she left for school at about 9:30 on the morning of Oct. 30. Her parents reported her missing later that day when she didn’t show up at school. The coroner estimated she had been dead about 14 days before she was found. The girl’s body was fully clothed, but she was missing a Size 28 to 30 brown leather belt, Size 7 dark brown leather sandals and a dark brown suede purse. None of these items has ever been recovered. She got killed on the same date as CJB, was a bit younger and the place she was killed is 40 miles away from Riverside. No sexual motive, the victim was fully clothed when they found her. Her killer took items with him but they don't think it was a robbery.

If you have been following the Martha Smith topic you may have come across the mention of another homicide in the SF Examiner Mar 16th 1996 article, that of Mrs. Kathleen Kirchgessner. Martha Smith -> viewtopic.php?f=37&t=4958 Martha Smith was the second slaying in 1966 in San Francisco to be noted by this paper. They seem to link them up by similar circumstances. I don't know if there is any 'official link'. Here are the articles I can find about her. Interestingly she was buried in Napa.

Books that we are told she checked out from the library. I doubt the version of that story now. If this is the Zodiac these are probably why he doesn't want to be linked up with these crimes. He left evidence behind. His calling card. These books. There is probably more also such as links to him.
