The hoaxer said they did it to keep the case alive. So it has to be the more recent ones when things were going very slow in terms of Zodiac mailings. The press release also says a group of letters, plural. They seem to be the ones that look similar and are signed Zodiac.

Over at Ricardo's site http://www.mk-zodiac.com he has posted some new information, and combined old information together in one spot, about the possible Zodiac communication Celebrity Cypher of September 25, 1990. See http://www.mk-zodiac.com/Decipheringthe ... ypher.html . This was first noted by Doranchak here, however, I want to make some observations about different aspects of this possible Zodiac communication.

Ricardo gives a very good, balanced and fair summation of the various proposed solutions to the cipher on the card.

Ricardo reports that Rubislaw32 has found the front image on the Celebrity Cypher postcard sent in by the Zodiac (or a hoaxer). Except for retired police officer Lyndon Lafferty, this has not been seen by Zodiac researchers until now.

The image had been described by Lyndon Lafferty as "driftwood" on a beach. While not inaccurate, I might describe it more accurately (?) as the branch of a tree on a beach. What do others think?

The image depicts a sandy beach and the postcard itself is called "SANDY BEACHES". As Ricardo notes, this is potentially of interest as a suspect in the June 4, 1963 possible Zodiac murders of Domingos and Edwards called himself "Sandy". That case involved the murder of a male - female couple by a lake by binding them, shooting them and then attempting to set the shack they were placed in on fire. This case has been suggested as a possible early Zodiac crime for many reasons.

The ammo used was Winchester .22 Super X and IIRC from a gun with six lands and grooves right hand twist, the same as in the Zodiac murders at Lake Herman Road in northern California on 12/20/68 (and also the same as in the ZODIUS murders of the Robisons on 6/25/68 in Michigan, 5 years and 21 days after the Santa Barbara murders, which like the SB murders also involved stacking bodies and attempting to disfigure bodies by heat). The MO of binding and attacking a couple by a body of water matched the Zodiac crime of 9/27/69 at Lake Berryessa, but although the Zodiac had a gun during that crime, he did the attack with a knife. The SB murderer killed with a gun, but had a knife, as he cut open Linda Edwards bathing suit top, exposing her. (A female victim was also exposed in the Zodius murders in Michigan).

The Celebrity Cypher card was mailed just two days short of the 21st anniversarry of that Lake Berryessa Zodiac crime. It was mailed 27 years and 21 days after the Domingos - Edwards Santa Barbara murders. It was mailed exactly 22 years and 3 months after the Zodius murders of the Robisons on 6/25/68. And the Celebrity Cypher card, postmarked Oakland 9/25/90, was mailed exactly 4 months after the 5/25/90 Oakland car bombing of activist Judi Bari. (Her group had dismissed the Unabomber as "crazy", Z suspect Ted Kaczynski had accused her of "emasculating" the environmental movement and the same rare type of ball trigger used to bomb her was found in TK's cabin).

Several Zodiac case researchers have mentioned that the motto written by Zodiac on the Halloween Card of "By Knife, By Gun, By Rope, By Fire" could apply to the 6/4/63 Santa Barbara beach murders.

To read more about "Sandy" see the excellent info and informed speculation gathered by Ricardo here: http://www.mk-zodiac.com/sandy2.html . And for info on the possible involvement of "Sandy" in a murder that happened just 30 miles away from and two days before the Domingos - Edwards murder, go here: http://www.mk-zodiac.com/sandy1.html

Did the murder suspect known as "Sandy" send the Celebrity Cypher "Sandy Beaches" card as a clue that he was responsible for the beach murders of Domingos and Edwards? Was the "driftwood" on the front of the card a clue to the "driftwood" shack the bodies were placed in prior to the attempted burning?

Ricardo discusses several theories on who "Sandy" could be. One theory mentioned, that has both pluses and minuses, is convicted killer and Zodiac suspect Ted Kaczynski. Ricardo notes, as I have, coincidence or otherwise, all the letters in the names used by two (or one?) killer(s), Sandy and The Zodiac, can be found in the letters in the name Theodore Kaczynski:

THEODORE KACZYNSKI and SANDY

THEODORE KACZYNSKI and THE ZODIAC.

A very young Ted Kaczynski does look similar to the "Sandy" suspect sketch. And they appear to have owned the same shirt.

In the past (around 2004) there was debate about this card and the possibility Zodiac was the author on several forums. I list this card in this thread because through time several webpages with this story have vanished and I wanted to show it to the new people interested in the Zodiac case.

Here is a newspaperarticle about this card in connection with a dead body.

Crimescene photo:

The card:

The way this card was written is very Zodiac-like (as well as the symbol on it )

The police said it was a suicide case, the coroner said it was a case of murder.

The dead body was identified as that of Bob Lord.

This case is from 1938 so I think the card can't be written by Zodiac because that was 30 years before the killings in California started. But you may disagree with me.
I think the story about this case and the card (seen in newspapers and a true crime magazine) could have been an inspiration source for Z...

But recently I found out that there was a note found in one of the cases writing about slaves in afterlife? Zodiac had used the same phrasing in the solution of his first cipher. The anonymous writer talks about matching fingerprints and DNA, which are included with the letters. Have they been matched? Are these letters fake Zodiac communications or just unconfirmed?

A letter surfaced within one week after America's most celebrated, unsolved air hijacking. It was sent to the Reno Evening Gazette, not to the FBI.

This letter was sent out from Oakdale, CA on Saturday, November 27, 1971. It reached the Reno Evening Gazette on Monday, November 29, 1971 and was immediately published on page 1 of that evening edition. It reads, "Attention! Thanks for the Hospitality. Was in a rut. D.B. Cooper." It was a cut and paste letter.
It was determined within two days that the letter's words and phrases came from the Friday, November 26, 1971 edition of the Modesto Bee newspaper. The FBI took possession of this letter and it has never been seen since.

What I find interesting is that on the envelope of this letter you can see a symbol that looks a lot like the symbol on the Zodiac's Halloween card....

Imagine a 80+ years old senior citizen writing a letter to let the cops run around just to relive his good old days in the Bay Area.

Nah, probably not a Zodiac communication but I found the tone of writing and handwriting of this postcard very like the Zodiac so I will post the story about it here anyway.

The radio station at Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee received an anonymous postcard in the mail on Oct. 8 2015 signed “Green Light Killa” and reported the suspicious note to campus police, who then brought it to the Gallatin Police Department the same day.

The postcard, which was postmarked in Peoria, Illinois reads:
“Hello, you know what it’s like 2 watch a train hit a man you laid on the tracks. Trains make an awful mess of an old drunk. Guess the cops never found his glasses. I found this is the best way to kill a man. Best wishes, the Green Light Killa”

Police immediately started an investigation and gathered a large contingent of personnel to go out and search the railroad tracks through Gallatin.
The search included emergency management personnel, command staff, lieutenants, patrol officers, reserve officers and cadaver dogs but after searching “about a couple dozen miles of train tracks,” the team came up with nothing.

Police have considered the possibility of the postcard being a hoax.

Here is a scan of the postcard:

I can't find any picture of the other side of the postcard on the internet.

Here is a handwriting comparison between Zodiac's "Halloween card" and the "Green Light Killa card". See attachment...
