I think it's very plausible that he went via Lake Herman Road, Reservoir Rd and then the highway back to Vallejo. Particularly in conjuncture with the kids sighting of a car speeding off on the Lake Herman Rd.</blockquote>

Approaching it from the west would not draw attention but somebody heading from the crime scene possibly would. Especially when the phone location was somewhere where I could see police cars leaving the station and thus easily assessing the situation and possible risk.]]></content:encoded>

No, he was actually a few blocks down from the police office; on the corner of Springs Rd and Tuolumne where Sylvia's Union Gas station used to be. One option could be that he didn't take Columbus Parkway, Springs Road etc. directly into Vallejo but drove via Lake Herman Road and Benicia and used this possible detour to avoid police coming towards him from Vallejo (remember the kids who discovered Michael and Darlene saw a car speeding of on the Lake Herman Rd in the direction of Benicia). The timings of this would roughly explain the missing time. Or he lived closer to the payphone and disposed of his weapon and car and walked there? All possible.]]></content:encoded>
