Pines Card Probably Referencing Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Club

When I was working on the Halloween Card's misspelling of Averly, I also noticed the same misspelling on the Pines card.

I decided to inspect a possible mechanism for how the card is supposed to operate.

2 cards.

Duplicates.

The prototype.

Peek through the Pines. The hole is in the pine trees.

Zodiac is an amateur. He is doing kid's puzzles.

The alleged missing card and searching for pinholes used in construction would help solve what he is getting at.

I believe some lineups were intended to shock whoever was solving the card. It explains why he needed that President. It also explains why the card elements have been placed in the positions they have.

It is all about duplicates and lining up IMO.

I suspect the 13 hole card references to holes has something to do with Golfing. I wonder what puncher he is using.

Anyway, the mechanism for the Pines card seems to explain why he needed to misspell Avery as Averly again.

The lines on the original card postal are why the words appear to be lined up at the bottom image. You will notice they share lengths and can be shifted along.

One thing that I am grateful for is what I call my "autistic thinking." It's low-level, not debilitating or anything and can be helpful. Basically, I'm not totally literal all the time, but when others see one thing in something or other, I tend to see first the more direct possibilities. Take the phrase "peek through the pines" pasted on this card. It carries a picture of a location, which some think is suggestive of another location (e.g. Donner Pass) and some people have even gone there "peeking through the pines" and started digging up potential grave sites and finding sunglasses. Is it just me, or does nobody notice that the card has a big punch hole in it and, as to the location of this hole on the card, that it looks "through the pines?" Anyone? ; It's not telling us to go anywhere, or even think about locations with pines at all. Basically, its telling us we are to use this card as an overlay on something, aligning it in some way, and then "peek through the pines." Here, for example. This is a correctly scaled Pines postcard as overlay on the Z340, which I think lines up pretty nicely over the array of symbols underneath and is very likely where we should be experimenting with it.

This is the kind of "peek through the pines" that we should be doing, not traipsing off into the mountains with a flask and snowboots.

Could the Pines card be a hint to a previous murder of Elizabeth “Betty-Lou” Ernstein? She was seemingly murdered on March 19th 1968 and buried in a shallow grave amongst pine trees by snowy ski slopes called Big Pines. The perp seemingly taunted her father by ringing him just after the abduction. https://www.zodiacciphers.com/zodiac-ne ... h-ernstein Three years later, the “Pines” postcard was sent hinting at a victim who was buried in the snow between the pines. It did admittedly say “pass Lake Tahoe areas” which wouldn’t make much sense, but it does seem a kind of curious coincidence. The Pines card was received on Monday March 22nd which meant there was a fair chance it was posted on the Friday March 19th - the exact 3rd anniversary of Ernstein’s murder. So, an abduction and murder, a creepy silent phonecall to the victim’s father and then an anniversary card to the press. All just a coincidence?

After watching the first season of The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer, my interest was peaked in looking at the timelines and possibilities. In two of the episodes they spoke a great deal about the Peek Through The Pines postcard. However, I cannot understand why they did this with such non credible information. From what I can tell it was brought up that ... 1. in 1999, a former detective in the case had admitted to forging the postcard. http://www.zodiackiller.com/Lass.html -----now I'm not sure why a detective in the case would have reason to do so. Does anyone else here have any information on this admission? 2. The postcard was delivered March 22, 1971. and was "assumed" to be Donna Lass (I'm not sure how that assumption came to be). .....problem is that it shows 12 victims over 8 months later. July 26th of 1970, The killer had 13 victims. And Oct 5th still 13 victims. This shows that a repetitive mention of 13 shows his certainty. A lot of curious minds wonder what this says about Donna Lass since the victim count did not change on Oct 5th (almost a week after her disappearance). I'll discuss my theory on that over in the proper channel on Donna Lass in the unconfirmed victims section. But a quick spoiler to that post... How could this be the same victim count? The following are the dates of messages in which Z had claimed a specific amount of victims: 11/09/69 - 7 04/20/70 - 10 06/26/70 - 12 07/26/70 - 13 10/05/70 - 13 10/27/70 - 14 03/13/71 - 17 03/22/71 - 12 07/13/71 - 21 01/29/74 - 37 04/24/78 - 'guess' 05/06/86 - 100+ The only body count not rising was sent with the 'peek through the pines' card. This card was also not handwritten. Although I still believe it most likely was a Z communication, one might wonder about why this had happened? Didn't Z know how many people he had killed? From March to July '71 he claimed to having killed four victims. From July '71 to January '74 another 16 victims. Four years later: 'guess' (50?). A total of 73 additional victims until May '86, if we can believe him (and yes, there were more homicides than one in the US..). QT

Sierra Club

I know that some people believe that Zodiac may have sent this as a clue to where the body of Donna Lass might be, but I was wondering if anyone has looked into the Sierra Club itself? I know very little about the Sierra Club that is why I am asking. Has any POI ever been linked to the club in any way? Or better yet, if you were researching a POI and found a link to the Sierra Club, what would you make of it?
