Maybe you could just try calling him and see if he is willing to talk and he may be able to put you in contact with others who
were there that night.

So I guess you have access to fingerprints that proove it is not from Z, because of your confidence in it not being authentic? So we can trust your statement?

Assuming no other evidence existed, you’d have to say that any card claiming to be from the Zodiac has a higher baseline likelihood of being from him than not being from him. If we put the card in the context of the evidence we would have to say that it is at least superficially similar to other Zodiac communications. So surely it’s got some merit.

I mean people talk about hoaxes, but I’d love to know just how common hoaxes are for this type of thing. Could be that the police get an avalanche of hoax letters from pranksters, then again it could be that hoax letters are very rare.

Anyway if a letter makes a reasonable claim of being from the Zodiac I’m not too quick to dismiss it. As much as I like Ross as a suspect, if I’m honest, on the surfaces of things the odds of the Celebrity card being genuine seem greater than that of Ross being the Zodiac.

The bottom line is that the card can’t be used to rule people in, or out. The investigation is decades old and one thing we don’t lack is people willing to dig around. At this point I say if you want to chase down even the most unlikeliest of leads, now is the time to do it. If this was day one of the investigation would either Ross or the Celebrity card be at the top of our agenda?

This was in the days before the internet and social media where hoaxes are widely broadcast, so it’s harder to understand the motives of the hoaxers. They must have been as strange in their everyday lives as Zodiac himself.
