The Ted K as the ZODIAC is in an interesting hypothesis with wide implications. Dig and you will see... I would like to start with the most simple Unabomber implication. As far as I know, no one was able to fully determine the logistics of this perp throughout the 78-97 period with some notable exceptions. The Federal case has severe shortcomings that if challenged would be imply an alibi on some of the mailing trips. Plus all the manufacturing and testing locations for the devices were never found out. Finally, the personage that was used to fool the fine folks in Helena would be easily spotted in a more urban polite setting. Meaning he had to have some location for a makeshift. So please correct me if I am wrong. Besides the frequent travelling and staying in a Hotel in Lincoln what else is known of his whereabouts doing many of the possible murder trips. I do not doubt that Ted would have arranged for secret hideouts. All seems to suggest that he was trained and or evolved to operate behind enemy lines. Phoenix program killers in Vietnam were prepared to do exactly the same. There is even a famous perp from the military that achieved the highest killing rate in Nam and come back to hunt ladies and other insane stuff. He had been soaked in LSD, as a MK-ULTRA experiment. Now Ted links to MK-ULTRA in Harvard to one of the program heavies. He also links to NAM in Michigan, where CIA literally recruited and employed the University as major base of operations to run south NAM in the build up for the war. Alternate Hood With Bib Front Piece Found in Kaczynski Cabin

It is possible my memory is faulty, and myself, Doug Oswell or someone else posted this here before. But if so I do no remember it. I have posted before about the black hood found in Kaczynski's cabin after his arrest, and how it is very similar to the hood used by Zodiac at Lake Berryessa.

This hood from Kaczynski's cabin is even more similar to the Zodiac hood as it has the Middle Ages front piece - bib attached.

Can a Mod make one of these images visible?

ophion - I am not much inclined to group theories, though I do not dismiss them. But I agree the total package on Ted is damning - the letters to the SF Chronicle demanding to be on the front page, the codes and ciphers, the crossed lines in a circle, the bomb threats - all shared elements of TK and Z. The up close killing remains the stumbling block for many, but Ted did shoot a worker at a mine site with a rifle, and built a wood pistol for use as a "homicide weapon".

Linda and Luke, I agree! I can think of NO USE for this hood for Ted as the Unabomber or as a hunter. Makes no sense.

Ricardo, I saw this listed in the FBI inventory 2 years ago, but this is the first time the image has been released to the public. The inventory also lists a BLACK "face mask" but says it is similar to a "Ski Mask", thus it would be like a hood as in it covers the whole head. No image on that one yet, that I have seen.

And yes the iconic sketch image of Ted in glasses and sweatshirt hoodie conjures up images of the Zodiac at Lake Berryessa, with his dark glasses and hood, doesn't it?

The existence of the hood found in Kaczynski's cabin shows that Ted, like Zodiac, wanted and could make a decent hood.

There is also a BLACK HOOD reported as found in Ted's cabin, but as yet no image I have seen.

NOW...

I am going to engage in a little speculation here, just exploration and asking a question.

Looking at the pictures of Zodiac in costume, it appears the hood has a box shape, like there might be a welding mask type structure. It also appears the hood is connected to the dickey that comes over the chest. So that it is one unit. It also appears in the police drawing that the hood has RECTANGULAR EYE SLITS.

Is it POSSIBLE that he may have wanted to wear a partial face mask hood UNDERNEATH the bulky hood-dickey structure? Perhaps in case it got knocked off during a struggle, so his face would still be partially covered?

Because it does look like the rectangular eye slits on the Kaczynski hood line up quite well with the Zodiac hood.

And they are both flat on top.

This item is being sold to the public. If there is even a 1% chance this could be something Zodiac wore, I wish it could be tested for DNA. With the bloody scene at Lake Berryessa, when Zodiac removed his hood with his hands, tiny microscopic specks of blood from the victims could have got on the hood.

Since my last post was lost in the move to the new site, this thread
will be a combination of a bunch of observations and ideas, all pointing to Theodore J Kaczynski being the Zodiac Killer. I am finding more stuff everyday so I will just post it all here instead of making a post for every topic. This is going to be a lot of different stuff to take in so bear with me please.

we saw that there are parts of the ciphers that when overlaid
point to TED's name, and there were clues in the letters sent with
the ciphers that ALSO pointed to TED's identity.

Please read that thread to see more details, but in the meantime
here is a little refresher.

But before we get started lets first look at something that will
be important for the rest of the topics covered in this thread.

Theodore J Kaczynski was born on May 22 1942.
He has a tested IQ of 167 and skipped multiple grades in school.
In high school he became obsessed with mathematics, often
locking himself in his room to study advanced math topics all night long. He became so good at math that he graduated high school at age 15 and was accepted to Harvard at age 16 with a mathematics scholarship.

While at Harvard Ted was part of a brutal psychological study led by Harvard psychologist Henry Murray. In this study the participants
were humiliated and verbally abused weekly while being recorded and monitored, and later repeatedly played the film of their frustration and rage. Ted was part of this study every week, enduring some 200 hours of abuse over 3 years.

I'm reiterating this just to provide some backstory for those who aren't familiar, and to show Ted's life revolved around mathematics.

Ted went on to complete his masters and doctorate from
University of Michigan and then started teaching math at
UC Berkeley for a short time until unexpectedly resigning
on June 30, 1969 (just 4 days) before the Blue Rock Springs attack on July 04, 1969.

Ted as the UNABOMBER used complicated ciphers and went on a bombing campaign lasting 18 years. At the same time he was also
murdering his neighbors dogs in Montana,
shooting a cow and a miner with a rifle,
building a homemade pistol to use as a "homicide weapon", sabotaging logging equipment and
setting up booby traps for dirt bikers that were making noise around his cabin.

His UNABOMBER bombings and the Zodiac murders both shared
a subtle pattern which I am working on writing up a post to explain and I will add here soon.

For now though just realize that Ted is a criminal mastermind, a literal diabolical genius that dedicated his life to getting away with murder. Though he has done quite a good job at whitewashing his criminal past under the guise of anti-tech environmentalism and obfuscating his mathematical roots, there are some things that he didn't hide. Things that can identify him as Zodiac.

The subtle hints that will be explained in the following posts are not random. If it was a one off occurrence I could agree that it was just a coincidence, but there are more and more things coming to light. Things that KEEP pointing to ONE individual!

I will try my best to explain and be open-minded with this evidence, and I ask you to do the same. It is often so easy to focus on one suspect and ignore any evidence that doesn't fit our narrative. What is even more problematic in this case is that Ted has a PROVEN track record of planting false evidence! With Ted being in prison for the rest of his life, many are uninterested in exploring him further.

Ask yourself this though... what if Ted, a literal genius that dedicated his life to getting away with murder, actually was the Zodiac.

If these clues were pointing to any of the other suspects I would still be presenting everything I find. I have no interest in trying to make a buck off of a murderer or exploiting victims or innocent people. The truth of Ted's crimes simply needs to see the light of day.

if we apply that ratio to a circle

The letter sent to the S.F. Chronicle postmarked July 31, 1969
contained the 2nd piece of the z408 cipher and a two page note.

In that note there was a part that had a weird spacing of
"Exam iner ."

There was a period that was on the exact centerline of the letter.

The inner period was also exactly 3 times the diameter of a circle spanning from the inner period to the right intersection of the zodiac symbol.

And remembering Ted's birthday ratio mapped to a circle...
when we rotate 140.04 degrees or 38.9% of a circle we land directly on the "t" of the misspelled "idenity"

and that is the same spacing as the super X clue under the word "name" in the other page of the letter.

the X of "superX" also lands on the 2nd piece of the z408 cipher that had Dr TJK, and that is the only instance of "X" in the decrypted cipher.

that X/backward J is also 23 spaces into the 2nd cipher piece. If "idenity" was spelled correctly, then "In this cipher is my idenity" would be longer than 23 and not match up.

And remembering Ted's birthday 38.9%

the X/J of "DrtJk" is exactly 38.9% of 408!

So we have a spelling "mistake" that is a direct clue to Ted's identity.

Just once and it's only a coincidence right?

But can we see this in the other letters?

I noticed that this letter also had a bold inner period right on the center line of the page.

rotate by Ted's birthday mapped to degrees
140 degrees we land directly on the T of "ted k"

But there is a whole lot more I found in this one!

The circles for the center period and the circle from the zodiac symbol to the center period have letters that follow the edge of the circles perfectly:

the "d" of "coupled"

and

the "t" in "with"

When we draw a circle from the center of the big zodiac symbol to the center of the zodiac symbol in the lower right we have a circle that goes directly through the "t" of the misspelled "anilating" Another clue?

when we draw a circle from the center of the big zodiac symbol to the right side of the zodiac symbol in the lower right we have a circle that goes directly through the 0 in SFPD-0

I also noticed that if I rotated the circles used to find the middle a little to the left they line up with the ends of the arms of the big zodiac symbol and the circle now perfectly intersects the 0 of SFPD-0

TWO circles intersect with this 0! Clue???

When we scale the Letter to the map and overlay the letter on the map there are some VERY INTERESTING alignments...

Ted was living at
2628A Regent st.
I have marked it on the map

If we center the bigger zodiac symbol on Mt. Diablo and rotate the letter there are multiple alignments that match the clues we've found so far.

over the area Ted was living at on Regent st.

The school has been there since 1958.

If you look at the map,
the area where the bomb could be set was already built
and the connecting section says "finished mid 1969"

Also something a little amusing... If you follow Woodside (which is CA-84) all the way out to San Gregorio Beach, you pass "Peek-A-Boo Ln"

Was there ever really a bomb? Who knows?
But it is pretty wild that there is a school and bus stop
in that area...

Proof Ted Kaczynski wrote the Bates Confession letter

Knowing that the "X/backwards J" of the DRTJK thing from the z408 was the same ratio of his birthday to a total year I had a suspicion that it would appear in other letters.

Turns out we see the same thing in the Bates Confession letter.

There is some warping of the text in the photo of the confession letter so I have retyped it here with the exact spacing
that is in the pictures. I've also added the hyphens on the ends
of the rows to illustrate the dimensions.

If we treat the letter as 79x27

the total spaces in the box is 2,133

Ted's birthday 5-22-1942
142nd day of year(365)
142/365 = 0.389

Teds Bday (0.389) times length of bates letter (2133)
= 829.825

Position of TED's Bday (829.825)

When you go down 10.5 lines
you reach the ONLY instance of "TED"!

Speaking of the letters, Zodiac used FDR stamps for the vast
majority of the letters he sent.

In the lost post I know there was some questions about what AK wilks posted showing the symbol Ted used as the UNABOMBER or FC.
And that it was a valid re-creation from Doug Oswell's book
of what was painted at the crime scene.

After realizing the Ted birthday to degrees thing that keeps showing up in the letters the symbol now makes sense.

0.389 of a circle (360 degrees)
= 140.04 degrees

The symbol Ted used as FC was just that 140 degree rotation
both ways and then flipped upside down.

Lake Berryessa car door, part 2

Professor Ted's Math Puzzle I believe most communications from Ted have double meanings. A recent example would be the cracked 340 code and envelope. 'Please rush to Editor' was written diagonally on the envelope, a clue to the structure of the code. Building upon AK Wilks, Mark Hewitt and others. The car door is the chalk board, your homework is on it. Why write 'Sept'? Why the odd mixing of numerals and written dates on the door? So he could sign his initials by 't', 'k'. 't' from Sept, 'k' from knife, vertically aligned. Like in many of his writings, mistakes and odd layouts are what to look for. Please ignore all the extra numbers on my diagrams, we can go over them another time, let's stick to dates for now. I've posted before about Ted's birth year being encoded on the car door at Lake Berryessa, but I had not completed my math assignment from Prof Ted. Today I hopefully have. We have his initials, did he leave his birthday? Ted's DOB = 5-22-42 We'll use his written dates to create other hidden dates and solve the puzzle. Numbers (dates) in columns from the math professor, what should we do? Add and subtract? First the birth year. 69-27 = 42, in two directions, vertically and horizontally. Just like the 'mirrored pairs'/'corners' you find in many of his codes.

Now add, then subtract the 3 integers in the vertical column. 68 + 69 = 137 137 - 27 = 110 110 is too big for a date, let's factor and divide 110? Factors of 110 = 1, 2, 5, 10, 11 ,22 ,55 ,110 We have the year already, 42. Let's look for the month and day, numbers <=12 (month), and <=31 (day) We're left with factors 5, 10, 11 ,22 (5 * 22) and (10*11) = 110 We'll pick 5-22, combined with year of 42 and we have Ted's DOB = 5-22-42 Well 110 / 5 or 110 /22 are arbitrary, what other factors make up 110? (10*11), well that blows our theory out of the water, 10 and 11 have nothing to do with Zodiac! But wait, factors (10 * 11) 10-11, Oct. 11, he is telling us of his planned murder date, which will be victim Paul Stine. The math and word alignment I believe work only for these particular dates 9-27 and 10-11. Stine had to be killed on 10-11. That is why he chose a taxi driver, one who could be put into a situation to be killed at Ted's choosing. No stalking or coming upon an amorous couple. The 2nd birthday in the puzzle, Zodiac's beginning/birth, 69-6-30 is written on the door also, the date Ted resigned from UC Berkeley 06-30-69. Many other 5's and 22's in the puzzle if you look hard enough. Another leap, 0,3,6,9, (from 6:30 and 9 from 69) same numbers found on Mt. Diablo map, with 9 pointing to Berkeley. The number 4 is the only character that doesn’t match Zodiac’s handwriting, Ted’s 4 usually has a slant for the upper left stroke, which itself is fairly uncommon. Except he is inconsistent with this peculiarity and sometimes writes it straight. So all of his handwriting actually matches Zodiac’s. The guy is obsessed with ciphers and his frustration permeates all of his writing just like the Zodiac. It’s ridiculous how much this guy matches Zodiac on so many levels beyond any other suspect.

Zodiac Use of Super X Ammo

Some of this info was first raised in a topic thread on the Domingos and Edwards murders of 6/4/63 in Santa Barbara. I think it also deserves a more POI specific thread. I have always been interested in Zodiac using the .22 caliber Super X ammo for several reasons. One, it matches what was used at the possible Zodiac crime of Santa Barbara 6/4/63. Two, the police conclusion that ZODIAC at LHR on 12/20/68 used (a) Super X ammo, (b) fired from a gun with six right twists and (c) was most compatible with being fired from a JC Higgins pistol matches exactly, a, b, and c, with what police determined the ZODIUS used on 6/25/68 at the Robison murders in Michigan. Third, when police searched the Kaczynski cabin, not only did they find a black hood and a .22 rifle with a flashlight attached, matching what Zodiac used at Lake Berryessa and bragged about using to shoot people in the dark. They also found, out of the hundreds of different brands and types of ammo that could have been found, boxes of .22 Super X ammo. This is an interesting find by Richard Grinell. If you look at the Super X ammo itself, it has crossed lines inside a circle, very similar to the Zodiac symbol. At both the Zodiac crime of California LHR 12/20/68 and Zodius crime of Michigan 6/25/68, .22 caliber Super X ammo was used, and both were fired from a gun with six right twists and grooves, with police determining the patterns on the bullet were most compatible with having been fired from a JC Higgins .22 pistol. Police report on Jensen - Faraday Murders, Lake Herman Road, CA, 12/20/68,in which ZODIAC wrote a letter to a newspaper with inside knowledge of the crime. Police report on Robison Murder 6/25/68, Michigan, in which ZODIUS wrote a letter to a newspaper with inside knowledge of the crime. Looking at the police reports above, we see that both weapons used in the murder of a Michigan couple (with kids present) on 6/25/68, and the murder of a California couple 12/20/68, were from a .22 caliber gun with six right twists and grooves, with police in both CA and MI stating that the most likely weapon used was a JC Higgins. Ammo used in both cases was .22 Super X brand. In the 12/20/68 murder, police and press later received letters from killer, demanding they be printed in the newspaper, with details from the crime only the killer would know, killer dubbing himself ZODIAC. In the 6/25/68 murder, police and press later received letters from killer, demanding they be printed in the newspaper, with details from the crime only the killer would know, killer dubbing himself ZODIUS. In 6/4/63 California, 9/18/66 Illinois and 6/25/68 Michigan, the female victim was left exposed, and in 6/4/63 and 6/25/68, bodies were stacked atop one another. In the Robison case, a son was placed on top of the father, and the daughter placed on top of both of them. This is very rare. Former FBI Special Agent and serial killer profiler John Douglas referenced a study that found that after death posing of bodies occurs in less than 1% of homicides. The Robison family murders of 6/25/68 were one of a series of Midwest murders were entire families were killed or the attack took place in a home where the family was present. The other possible crimes in this possible series include the attack on the Percy family home on 9/18/66 in which Valerie Percy was killed and the murder of the Bricca family in Ohio on 9/27/66, in which father, mother and daughter were killed. In the Bricca case, bodies were also posed, and like Santa Barbara 6/4/63 and Michigan 6/25/68, the female was placed on top of the male. Based on evidence I gave them, the detectives in the Bricca case issued a press release stating that the Zodiac Killer was being investigated as a suspect. In 1972, police made an announcement to the press that the 6/4/63 murders were linked to the Zodiac murders. The 'other evidence that can't be discussed' was the fact that Super X ammo was used at both 6/4/63 and 12/20/68, and that both were fired from a gun with six right twists and grooves. Similarity of Solved Zodiac 340 Code to Unabomber Code

David Oranchak, Jarvle and Sam Blake have solved the Mt. So we can agree that this was great work, a real achievement, while at the same time being disappointed that this solve of the Z340 does not seem to shed any further light on the identity of the Zodiac. But I think it does shed some light on the identity of Zodiac. First, that this is revealed as a real code, a complex one, one that defied the efforts of the FBI and others to decode it for 50 years. I think it tells us that Z was very intelligent, had some real skill in codes and mathematics. More importantly, this code is very complex, multi - step, the decoding process involves adding numbers together to get the next step, it is multi-directional, including diagonal, and has numerous misspellings, with all or most likely being intentional to increase the difficulty of solution. This presents a very unique set of elements. The solvers do not seem aware of any other criminal or non-criminal code that employs these exact elements. If there was another code that used these exact same elements, I would think the FBI would be very interested in looking at the creator of such a code. A code like the solved Z340 is so complex, with so many specific elements, it presents something so unique that it is almost like a signature. I am here to notify the solvers, and others, that there is a person, a criminal, a serial killer, a bomber and someone who, like Zodiac, wrote to newspapers stating innocents would die unless his words appeared on the front pages, who created and used a complex, multi-step, multi-directional code involving diagonal sequences. This code is even more complex than the Z340. But he created this code probably in 1979 or thereabouts, so imagine the creator of the Z340 but with at least 10 more years of knowledge and experience in code creation. Like the Z340, this code is complex, multi-step, you have to add numbers together to get the next step, is multi-directional, including diagonal, and has many misspelled words, all or most likely being intentional. This was the code created and used by the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. I know Dave, the other solvers and all of us here want more than anything for this code breakthrough to lead to a real breakthrough in the case, bringing the Zodiac to justice and bringing the survivors and the loved ones of the victims some real closure. I would ask Dave, Jarvle, Sam and others with expertise in codes to examine this evidence with an open mind. When the FBI raided Ted's cabin, they found a notebook with pages and pages of entries that just consisted of numbers, commas and spaces. They guessed it was a record of his crimes, but they could not break the code. Just like the creator of the Z340, Ted had created a code that the FBI could not break. It was not until they found the code key in the cabin that they were able to break the code, and found out that it was indeed a journal of all his Unabomber crimes, including three murders by bombs, bombings that injured over twenty, an attempt to blow up a passenger jet in mid-flight and the shooting and wounding of a worker at a mining site with a rifle. The following was published in a cryptology journal details how the code worked. The author is member of the FBI Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU).
