Why is the By next to the knife written in a different direction to the rest ?

The answer could be manyfold, so I doubt it will ever be answered to anyone’s satisfaction. The knife used at Lake Berryessa was deployed in a ‘striking down’ motion, so the "by" on the Halloween card may be structured downwards to depict the movement of the knife, adding a sinister element to the text. But nobody really knows why.
