Post by Luke88 on former ZKS.
This is the most direct reference I’ve come across for the use of Red Phantom. It’s an old book, published in 1939 and I can’t find it anywhere in full form. The interesting bit is that it was published by the Banner Play Bureau who are a San Francisco publishing house. The last recorded address was in Post Street in SF in 1961.

Interesting find…Post Street is next to Geary street, didn´t Paul Stine pick Z up from there?

In 1970, a woman by that same name was living at 2207 39th ave in SF

That woman was a member of the CALIFORNIA WRITER’S CLUB at the time she wrote RED PHANTOM in 1939, In 1960,a group in the Berkeley area called the PARK PLAYERS, performed a play written by her called WRONG NUMBER…a comedy at the Live Oak Little theater, also,in the early 70’s, a woman with the same name wrote news artciles for an AP service called COPLEY NEWS SERVICE. Not sure if it is the same woman

If you google her name "Eloise Keeler" along with "zodiac" a couple zodiac related terms come up that are related to movies, plays or books. They are,as follows:

"a masque of the zodiac" & "dance of the Zodiac a 2 part play"

Its more of who she is that interest me. Her father, Charles keeler was good friends with prominent high ranking members of the Sierra club. The book I would love just know what it was about.

Ok here is something that caught my eye:

The book ‘Red phantom’ was published by the Banner Play Bureau

Their office is (or was) at 111 Ellis Street. Now I looked that address up and it is just two blocks away from Geary Street / Manson Street. The book has not been published to the broad public, so I’d rather say that Z presumably had his ties not only to the newspaper industry with e.g. SF Chronicle, but also to other publishing companies, such as the Banner Play Bureau. Zodiac paper inc.?
