When I got out of the USMC, at the direction of my discharging officer, I filed my DD-214 at the local courthouse. I understand that was common practice everywhere at one time. I believe they are no longer filed; however, those that remain are searachable in a redacted format.

Does anyone know how/if/where DD-214s were filed in California? My POI has alternately claimed to be in the military and NOT in the military. I’d like to find records on him.

Does anyone have any suggestions about other sources of military records? I have a verified name and date or birth for my POI. I also have a SSN that he uses; although, I believe it is probably fraudulent.
