Does anyone know the best way to find who lived at a certain address at a certain time? I know directories are the best bet, but I can’t find the one I would need. Actually, I need to find where a certain person lived in 1966. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

You could contact the assessors office in the county where the house is located. They send out the tax bills so would have a record. Another alternative would be to contact the recorders office in that county. It would be tricky with the recorders office because they probably have the records in the person’s name and by parcel number not necessarily by the address. Try the assessor first because they have the addresses where to send the tax bills. You can probably phone them to find out. In any case I bet they will help you to find the owners back in 1966.

Also, just because a certain person owns a home it doesn’t always mean that they lived there, the home could have been a rental.

Thanks, Seagull. I know this guy lived at the address since at least the 80’s so I imagine he owns it. He is from a wealthy family, but still could be renting. I will make some calls tomorrow and see what I can find out.

Did that guy ever help you out? Finding info like that isn’t very difficult if you’re familiar with the process. The PVA office of that county would have the info on it, including parcel number (which you may need, depending on the state). Most PVA offices now have searchable databases online now, so it can all be found from the computer.
