Well said. People who believe Zodiac was a master criminal ignore the witnesses, tire tracks, casings, bootprints, and other forensic evidence he left at crime scenes. He was more lucky than smart.

Lucky in light of today’s forensic science. At the time, the evidence that he left would only confirm that he was the killer after he had already been identified.

I get what you’re saying, but evidence that confirms the killer’s identity is obviously important to convicting a criminal. More importantly, the witness descriptions could have lead police to Zodiac. That’s probably why the Zodiac murders stopped after the Stine sketch was released.

Zodiac was a screwup. He left behind five breathing victims, two survivors, bootprints, possibly fingerprints and palmprints, tiretracks, eyewitnesses, and earwitnesses. If the APB had gone out for a WMA he would have been locked up in ’69.

I don’t know if the murders stopped because he thought he would get caught or if the murders stopped because he thought that his bomb letters would cause more terror than murders. If Morf’s new suspect is viable, it may be that he stopped killing because of changes in his personal life. We know that DeAngelo stopped killing when his niece lived with him. BTK stopped killing when his kids got older. Zodiac may have just found something worth living for. If he really wanted to continue killing, he could have changed his appearance or worn a ski mask or moved to another state.
