Not sure how true this is but Cecilia Shepard and Brian Hartnell have ties to Riverside are same as Bates. It’s said that Sheppard went to La Sierra University the same time as Bates went to RCC. Also that Sheppard is from Riverside County, Loma Linda area. The two colleges are only about 9 miles apart. They both supposedly had an interest in music. Also after Hartnell was released he himself moved to Riverside County the same city where Sheppard was from Loma Linda and has been there since. Kathleen Johns was abducted on a dark highway between southern cal and northern cal. My money is on Ross Sullivan. He could have known both Sheppard and Bates since they were in college in same city at same time. He left Riverside shortly after Bates death and then Sheppard is now dead afterward. Just to many things connect to Riverside and POSSIBLY Sullivan
