I don’t know that it matters anymore. Maybe anything will help someone finally solve this poor girl’s case. She deserves that. I know what it means to long for answers, it is a ridiculous, unwavering pain. I feel her family will always feel that and it makes me sad for them. I worked for Bud and Effie Kelley (mostly Effie) for about 24 months. In their home. He terrified me. I only saw him 2 times, then he was arrested. I was going to quit because I could barely stand to be in the house. I worked for Effie. She needed my help so I stayed. She was very fragile. She would sometimes read me his letters from jail while his fate was being determined; while I made her ice tea. They didn’t reveal anything about the past, just mostly rambling, and apologies. When I met him for the first time, he was obnoxious, almost inappropriate, rude. He demanded I stay out of a room down the hall before you reached their bedroom. After my second visit, I wanted to quit. The 3rd time I went, he was gone. Effie told me he was going to be gone a long time. That helped. I googled him when I got home that day because I knew there was more to what she had told me. I was shocked at what I read but not surprised. The fact he was there, he lived close, he was at the college a lot, the diary, his poetry, the military, secrecy, convicted predator. The bottom line. His DNA should be tested. No one seems to be rushing to do that.

Back in 2017 a thought popped into my head to look up Bud Kelley in my 1966 Riverside phone book and was shocked
to see he lived DIRECTLY across the street from Cheri Jo’s high school !

One of the moderators here said she contacted someone who might be able to help with this, but I don’t know if that
information ever got to the RPD Detective in charge of Cheri’s case, I’ve been playing with the idea of trying to contact
RPD myself with this info but so many poster’s here have said that RPD won’t pay any attention to anyone.

I really wonder if anyone at RPD today has any clue that Bud kelley lived just steps away from Cheri’s high school in
1966 !

I know. I know, every man in the 1960s looked like the zodiac. But Kelly has the type of full face, crew cut, etc. that I would expect. His eyelids really match the droopy eyelid thing going on in the Stine sketch and that people have mentioned as distinct.

Do we have any ideas about his whereabouts on the nights of the killings?

Does anyone in California want to go talk to him? We know basically where he is?

That said ….. I think Zodiac was a much more gifted poet. If I had to go based on literary analysis alone, I would say no match, from what we’ve seen.

This is the first time that I have ever ruled out a POI because his poetry sucks.

Remember Darlene’s sister, in the report about William Grant, said the guy who Darlene had said she had witnessed murder someone and who was stalking her had a name that was something like three or four letters, followed by another short one? And that it was kind of a generic name? People assumed Will Grant, or Bill (William) Grant.

Bud Kelly fits too.

BTW, depending on his weight at the time, this guy (photo above, and younger version posted in the Taptalk thread), could totally be confused with ALA, which could explain Mageau’s identification of ALA. He is also not a bad match at all for the Lake Berryessa sketch.
