Hi..

as far as I know CJB is present in the 1965 Ramona High yearbook and had graduated from Ramona High in the spring of 1966, then went to RCC the same year and died. Now I wonder if she had been on Ramona High many years before? Or when she had actually started at Ramona High?

At least I can’t find her in the 1962 Ramona High yearbook..
http://www.classmates.com/yearbooks/Ram … 3?page=248

Here someone mentions she had moved to Riverside in 1957..
http://zodiacrevisited.com/cheri-jo-bat … -analysis/

..so there is a ‘gap’ of five years between Omaha and her time at Ramona High.

Therefore..which schools did CJB visit before going to Ramona High? I somewhat recall things such as her coming from Nebraska or that she might have visited Jefferson Elementary in Riverside..in latter case, why isn’t she listed as a Junior or Sophomore at Ramona High in 1962? Which school had she been before, when she was approximately 14-15 yrs. old (she was born in 1948)?

Thanks for any answers, it might be of interest to better understand where CJB might have given ‘brush offs’ to her killer.

Cheri Jo graduated from high school in 1966, she would have been a junior in the 1965 yearbook and a sophomore in the 1964 yearbook. Looking through the link you posted for the 1962 yearbook, it looks as if the high school had only three classes, sophomore, junior and senior. In 1962 Cheri Jo would have been in the eighth grade and therefore would have been in a different school.

Seagull thanks..would be interesting to know which one (possibly Jefferson?).

Meanwhile found some info on her mother..she had died on the same day of the July 4 attack in Vallejo:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cg … =115000167

Her father was a Joseph C Bates, he was born in New York.
http://www.omnilexica.com/?q=michael+bates

Guess if CJB and her brother went to Jefferson Elementary or Magnolia Elementary School, we’ll never know anything about her classmates because as far as I know there are no yearbooks..

And while Michael S Bates went to Ramona High and (later?) worked for the Navy/Army, a friend of him not necessarily must have visited Ramona High, too. Nevertheless..three years is enough to talk about ‘brush offs’ over the years. So it is still likely that her killer went to Ramona High and possibly followed her to RCC to talk to her, not being very successful (‘she was then very willing to talk to me‘).

In the confession letter, the author then mentions that ‘his car was down the street’ and that he ‘would give her a lift home’. Not only that he had ‘followed her out (of the library) after about two minutes’ (he therefore claims to having been inside the library), no she doesn’t even freak out when this guy mentioned to give her a lift ‘home’. Besides the fact that he – sooner or later – must have known where she had lived (‘home’, also the letter sent to Joseph Bates), according to the author CJB did not disagree to getting a lift home. It appears as if it was only when he mentioned that it was ‘about time’ (to die) that she freaked out.

It sounds as if the author had not only known Cheri (including her name) but also her car (where he disabled the distributor) as well as her school (Ramona High) and was aware of where she lived (address the letter was sent to), even that she had studied that night (was in the library himself) and did know names of family members (letter addressed to Joseph Bates). And he even claims of having the will to make her pay for them brush offs ‘she had given‘ him (!) ‘during the years prior’.

For me, one thing is sure: This killer had known his victim.

Yes. No freshmen.
