In the images of her car, the ones we’ve all seen such as the one with the open door and the books sitting on the seat, the car is parked next to the corner of what looks like a run down old structure, to me it looks like a house with wood siding. Problem is, supposedly she was parked outside the library on Terracina Drive but there’s no such old rundown structure like that to park next to.

To make matters worse, in one of the images of the car, the one in which the photographer was more towards the front of the car, in the background is another parked car, its across the street and parked in front of another building that has flagstone on it. Problem is, not only is there no parking along Terracina on the library side of the street, there isn’t any on the other side either, and furthermore, there was no building on the other side of the street to park in front of to begin with, the other side of the street simply had a heavy duty fence.

To me it looks like she was parked somewhere in amongst the old houses shown towards the left in the following image.

The yellow rectangle is where I’ve thought she was supposedly parked, but I don’t see any parking there, in fact the whole school is surrounded by a side walk, not parking spaces. But for the sake of argument, lets say I’m blind as a bat and I’m just not seeing the parking along Terracina, this still doesn’t explain the old structure in the photos of her car. Along Terracina are trees, if anything she should be parked next to a tree, not a bush and a house.

In the above image, towards the bottom, in other words the complete opposite side of the school, the Fairfax side, it looks like there’s a large area where cars could park, but this side of the school is also problematic, there’s no buildings on the other side of the street here either, nor is there any old stuctures.

Again, I think she was parked over next to one of the abandoned buildings that the school was planning to demolish, in fact I think right around the corner out of camera view of where her body was found. Remember she was seen driving down an alley, I think she was driving there because that’s where she was going to park, why, because there wasn’t any parking on Terracina.

This matter of where she parked seems so simple but for some reason I just don’t get it, which makes me think I’m stupid and missing something totally obvious.

Anyway, since I’m at it and since the above image facilitates it, marked with the red "X" is supposedly where her body was found, this too I have reservations about. I marked with the yellow star where I think the actual location to be. I think this location is more apt because if you notice in the crime scene photo, the one with the two detectives standing at the house, one of them actually standing on the porch of the house, this house is on the left when looking from Terracina Drive. The red "X" location doesn’t work because instead of a house being in the left side of the photo, the large school building would be there.

One thing I forgot to mention, again referring to the well known photos of her abandoned car, there’s another parking space right there next to the one she parked in, you can see the oil spots from cars parking there just as there’s oil spots under her car in her space. The point being, one of the old houses that I think she was parked at, that it had multiple parking spaces set up in such an organized manner might suggest that it wasn’t a house but some sort of small apartment or condo.

Since these parking spaces where most likely associated with one of the school owned properties that was vacant, she’d have had no problem parking there, I mean it’s not like she would’ve been parking in somebody elses space that lived in the neighborhood.

It might be possible that her car stood slightly North, like above the upper line of your photograph, on the other side (opposite the campus).

You are correct with respect to the placement of Cheri Jo Bates’ body on the left side of the buildings in the old photograph.
Here is the approximate position relative to Terracina Drive and the old scoreboard. It may be slightly further left than in my depiction, but you get the idea. The crime was committed in a dirt driveway on Terracina Drive between two unoccupied houses.

Her vehicle was discovered 75 yards east of the alleyway, which places it just 30 yards east of the library annex.

Richard, the photos of Cheri Jo’s car were taken in the parking lot of the police station after her car was towed away from RCC.

I have searched high and low for pictures of Cheri’s car at the crime scene and cannot find any. I think it may be important to know
exactly where her car was parked to determine why no one observed Cheri Jo having car trouble.

The local newspaper must have photos of her car in their archives, maybe someone could E-Mail the Press Enterprise and ask them
to release the photos of her car ?

Yes, the photographed Volkswagen pictures aren’t necessarily the crime scene. Her vehicle was originally parked where I’ve placed it in the photograph. The depiction I created was done over two months before the History Channel docudrama, which, based on the information given by Riverside Police from yet seen documents, depicted the vehicle in the identical position.

Google "street view" photos of the brick building in the background of the pic of Cheri’s car can be seen.

Just search google earth by typing in the search box "Riverside Police Department, Riverside CA" (it’s on Orange street)

The vehicle was parked 75 yards east of the alleyway, 30 yards past the library entrance.

Richard, there were two entrances to the library, one indicated by the blue dot and the other indicated by the red dot.

My theory is (assuming Cheri was having car trouble at approx. 9 P.M.) that the library patrons and employees exited the
library via the "red door". That would explain why no one saw her and her killer because the corner of the building blocked
their view. (depending on EXACTLY where her car was parked) That’s why I think it’s important to know PRECISELY where her
car was parked.

I think it’s possible the blue entrance was locked that night because it was Sunday and they wanted to restrict access to the
rest of the Quad building.

Thanks for the extra information Monarch. The reason I have concluded nobody saw the killer, saw the disabling of the Volkswagen or heard any commotion whatsoever, is because the disabling of the vehicle happened just minutes before her murder at around 10:30 pm. If CJB got into an altercation with whomever she had been with for the previous 4 hrs, he could easily have pulled the wire of the distributor in her presence, as she was about to leave, thereby forcing her to stay in his company. The attack in the alleyway the eventual conclusion. The Confession letter attempts to portray a picture of a woman who leaves the library, finds her vehicle won’t start and the ‘good Samaritan’ arrives, coercing her to her death. We know this chain of events is impossible, but the author of the Confession letter would like us to believe it to be true.

Are there any structures remaining from 66, or can you pinpoint the exact location of where police photographed her vehicle by the cop station?

Richard, Cheri’s car was parked where the green dash is seen above in this 1966 aerial photo.

there is now a large parking garage there.

"But now the white building should be on the right- which it isn’t.
The location of Cheri Jo Bates should be near the yellow 5-pointed marker.

That’s correct Richard, the red X is the wrong spot.
