D. Robert C. Dyer: Speech, Theater Arts ….He is the only one listed in Theater Arts.
Since the desk was allegedly originally found in the music room:
John A. Guin: Data Processing, Music
Edwin D. Sayre: Chairman of Fine and Applied Arts Division, Music
Richard Stover: Music
Wilbert F. Hunt: English, Speech, Poetry
Two points:
1. It’s more than possible that R.H. Blyth’s writings on Japanese poetry (and Zen, for that matter) were studied at RCC in the relevant period – haiku became very popular in the West, especially after WWII, and Blyth’s volumes on the genre were influential (and no doubt favored by many teachers who taught haiku as part of a course).
2. There is nothing very haiku-ish about the desktop poem. It conforms to a certain standard, not to say cliche, which could be called generally modernistic (think Plath or someone of that ilk). Many modernist poets were inspired by haiku, and some wrote their own brand of the stuff in English – but the desktop poem doesn’t qualify as haiku in any meaningful sense.
FWIW
PS As I understand the OP’s intention, the idea is that there could be a connection between "rh" and R. H. (Blyth) more than anything (that is, more than an idea about haiku as such), and in the sense that Blyth could very easily have been required reading in a certain kind of class – this idea is plausible.
The Sep-Oct edition of the RCC newspaper front-paged the now-famous pic of Cheri, studying in the Library. A lot of folks saw that pic and one, in particular, then considered the Library as a likely place to kill Cheri.
I support this theory – that perhaps the killer had seen the "Nightime" publication (not the regular RCC publication with the picture of Cheri on the cover of front page as you say bc I’m not aware of that one). Furthermore, the students who worked with that specific publication were part of a writing group that met at night time on campus. Hence the name of the publication being "Nightime" that CBJ is supposedly pictured in the library on. However I’m not sure she was on the front page. I seem to remember that picture being somewhere toward the back of the publication if we are remembering the same thing. There are also many who are not so sure the girl in the picture is Cheri. I forget what proof there was that it was Cheri in the picture – if there was any.
I think it has been determined that the girl in the photo IS NOT CJB.
Technically the photo is not a photo of the old RCC library. It is one of the four hallways of the building called the Quadrangle. If you look at the left side of the photo following the wall past the students in the picture you will barely see the outline of a doorway. Those are the double doors of the library entrance. The door at the far end of the photo is the southeast entrance of the building. The library was so small that when over filled with students they would use the desks in the hallway. This is the exact location where I observed creepy zodiac like ciphers carved into a desk in February of 1968 when I was a student at RCC. The actual crime site is less than 150 feet from where this photo was taken. If you could place yourself in the photo looking at the students in the hallway the crime site would have been behind you, outside the building of course, just a stone’s throw away.
If the girl in the newspaper photo wasn’t Cheri, she must have been her twin. The resemblance is so close that one can be forgiven for assuming the girl is Cheri and that, therefore, Cheri frequented the college library at night. Granted, this would be a mistake but, for Cheri, it was a fatal one.
It has been confirmed by Cheri’s brother that the girl in the library annex picture is not Cheri. It does look very much like Cheri but her head is down so facial features are not readily apparent and many girls wore the same hair style at the time.
I will look. They list all the staff in back. I don’t believe there were any RH staff members. There was another R.H. so-and-so, but no first and last named R.H’s.
I would not doubt if Haiku was taught in a class, but certainly not the sole subject.
R.H. or not Tahoe, can you list the names of all the custodial staff? That’s a good little tool you have to work with Tahoe
I have a book on the history of RCC published in 1981, in the back of the book there is a list of all the faculty and staff
that worked there from 1916-1981.
I’m going to list all the names below with the initials RH in case it rings a bell with someone here on the board.
