Is it not possible the Zodiac had knowledge of the wording on the ‘Confession’ letter and simply incorporated this language into the ‘Little List’ letter to suggest a connection to the observer.
Morf on that point I agree. The letter writer is likely the poem writer, and he very likely went on to become Zodiac.

Absolutely!
This is something we have discussed in the past, but it has come to the forefront again recently. There is almost zero doubt Zodiac read detective magazines. The murder of Cheri Jo was in one of these magazines…along with the Confession letter.

Possible but not probable.

There is absolutely no proof of this claim whatsoever.

Z copied the subtle wording in an attempt to take credit for the Riverside crimes.
However, the double postage used in both Bay Area Z and Riverside was just a remarkable coincidence!
Do we know if a sample has ever been obtained from the confession letter stamps?
We are talking about the Confession letter, P_A.
The detective magazine observations were not brought on by myself, but by people you might actually respect. And with a little research, you’d most likely agree…but don’t worry, you would be agreeing with them, not me.

There were no stamps on the Confession letter. I doubt it in regards to the envelope, but could be some attempt was made recently since they were opening the door to more DNA projects.

Thanks Tahoe. I sure hope they learn something.

Paul, perhaps you haven’t looked at the Alfred "Bud" Lord article from the June 1941 from the Official Detective magazine. Not only is there a crosshair symbol depicted on a pictured note, there is the spelling of "clue" as "clew" throughout the article and magazine. The crosshair symbol is just as Zodiac has penned it with the crosshairs extending beyond the circle.

Just to add to the notion that detective magazines likely played a part in Zodiac’s sphere of influence.
From the book Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters written by Peter Vronsky.

I’d love to get my hands on a copy of that study!
Donald Harden thought there was a detective story influence, too:
A detective story that mentions a killer calling and saying "This is Z speaking":
Ciphers were featured in many of these periodicals.
An ACA member, in fact, recently finished publishing scans of numerous cipher-related articles and stories from Flynn’s "Detective Fiction Weekly":

… and of course there’s this possible connection as previously found by Tahoe. Insomuch as it pertains to Zodiac possibly taking inspiration from magazines.
