This is merely an exercise in futility. If and when the Zodiac is found and if he is alive, perhaps he will explain this and all the other speculations. If he is found and has passed away, chances are nobody will know for certain unless his real name can then unravel these twisted "clues."

Well, I’m new to this forum, although my interest in the Zodiac case is much older. My English is not that good, so please sorry in advance.
I decided to register after the successfull decoding of the Z340. My sincere congrats to all involved, this is really an outstanding achievement.

I would share some observations that became clear after this happened.

First of all, the Z304 is turned out to be 100% text without any filler while consisting of same 17-chars long lines as in the Z408. Moreover, there’s a "LIFE IS DEATH" thing, which is actually right-aligned. From my point of view, this somewhat proves that the Zodiac was capable to handle the text and fit it into the required shape. Therefore, I have an idea that the Zodiac would rather add another line of nonsense or even rewrite the ending, rather than fill it with random characters.

Next, the column charpicking theory.

But although I don’t believe in the whole theory, its initial idea is interesting, and the remark #3 in even more interesting. Because it’s exactly center-aligned (there’s 5 chars left and right to it), and if you’ll see columns just above it, there will be some eerie words starting from the very beginning, with some weird coincidence in lines count:

I can clearly see the KILLING FOR REST part and the "our/my" contradistinction.
While second sounds not that interesting, the first one immediately prompts a question: are Zodiac typos are real typos and not the attempt to add some hidden meaning a posteriori to the initially correct cipher?
If this were true, it might be worth collecting statistics on typos and somehow start from it.
BTW, typos of the Zodiac always looked strange to me, and English is not my native language.

Also, there’s also "THEMOAT" ("the moat", fixed as "the most" in the resulting text) part in block 6, but I found it just after preparing an image.

If the letters EBEORIETEMETHPITI are re-arranged into 4 columns, you get

This is a similar manipulation to making a scytale with letters on 4 sides and a wrap that goes around 5 times.
Z may have constructed the Z340 in a similar fashion, which might just explain why it was in 9 line sections.

Now, given that some of the words in the last 2 lines of the Z340 are written backwards and some forwards before encryption, its not unreasonable that Z might have done this in the last 18 characters of the Z408 also.

Reading the 4 columns up and down, the words [hi], [there], [im] (as in I’m?), [beeep] (sp?) [it] and [to] can be found.
This seems slightly more than a coincidence.

Since we already have the keys of cipher 340 , it would be interesting to work, alternatively, and with them and the key of 408 simultaneously.

–The symbols of the Z18 that have key values in 340 are in total 14. (in the image I put the crossed circle in place of the value of the symbols that do not have their key, obviously they were not used in z340)
