Does anyone know which of Z’s letters were published in the first edition (1-1-86) of Graysmith’s first book? I’ve been unable to locate a copy of it online. If the 1974 letters were not published in it, then the 1986 "up by Sacramento" letter cannot be a forgery, since it contains handwriting peculiarities that are in the 1974 letters.
The Citizen card and the Exorcist letter were both published in the Chronicle around the time they were received. I don’t think that the letters would have to be shown in Graysmith’s book in order for someone to have copied the writing style.
See the articles here-
They are down towards the bottom of the page.
Gestr, I looked in my copy of Graysmith’s first book and there are three letters from 1974 pictured. The Exorcist letter, the Citizen postcard and the April 24, 1974 letter.
Thanks, Seagull.
