Does anymore have a list of "dates" when each Zodiac letter was "released to the public" for viewing?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks

If you mean when the letters containing ciphers were reproduced/printed in the papers (rather than when they were mailed/stamped), these dates are correct (I think):
408 cipher (three parts): Aug 2, 1969 (mailed Jul 31)
340 cipher: Nov 12, 1969 (mailed Nov 8)
“My name is…” cipher: Apr 22, 1970 (mailed Apr 20)
If you mean the letters in general, that’s probably better asked in the (general) letter section. *
* I’m pretty sure someone has done a complete list (both when the letters were mailed and when they were printed), but I’m not 100% sure. Most lists that are easily available (like the wiki Z letter source) only operate with mailing dates as far as I can see.
Thanks Norse
What I am really asking for is the "dates" that LE and the FBI released letters to the public——not when the letters were mailed by Z.

Bmichelle, you can probably figure it out for yourself by reading the SF Chronicle Chronological thread where all of the SF Chronicle articles are posted. The articles will tell you when each letter was announced. Some of the letters were not announced until much later than they were postmarked.

Are you talking about the known/confirmed Z letters? The ones most people believe are genuine Z communications? If so, these were made public on the dates when they were first reproduced/featured in the papers he sent them to (sometimes very shortly after he mailed them, sometimes a bit later – as Seagull points out).
Are you referring to parts of the letters which were not printed immediately – because LE wanted to hold something back from the public?
It’s not clear to me precisely what you mean, I’m afraid.

Thank You!!!!!!
You gave me the answer I was looking for.
Thanks again!

Another question? Been searching….
I Know that the confession letter was dated Nov 29th 1966 but I am
trying to find the date/year it was presented/released to the public for
viewing by LE.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
The Best Mystery Is An Unsolved Mystery….
I just posted an article about that today! Look at the December 2, 1966 article
I don’t know if the actual Confession letter was ever printed in the paper like they did with Zodiac’s stuff. I’m thinking not.
Yes, that article I posted today has only portions of the letter in it though the fact that it was received was announced fairly quickly. The only place I can recall at the moment where I’ve seen an image of the confession Letter is in the March 1971 Argosy magazine.

Thank You!!! For answering, as always I appreciate the help and input.

I found an earlier instance where the Confession Letter was published. A newspaper clipping of the full transcribed letter appears in the January 1969 issue of Inside Detective. This was before Zodiac began his letter writing campaign.
Since there is a clipping of a newspaper article in the magazine, though it’s really tough to read, I think we can safely assume that it really was published.

Yes…thanks seagull.
Now where was it published? Both the Examiner and Chronicle put those squiggly lines around some of their articles. We’ve seen it with Avery’s stuff. I wonder if the LA Times did this too? Or other Southern California newspapers?
