I am determined not to write another mini essay so I shall be brief, straight to the point, and, eh, so on.
A claim, or suggestion, has been put forward to argue that Kane/Cane did not reside at an apartment within 217 Eddy st, but that he actually was a tenant of 455 Eddy st apartment block, which just so happens to be the very same building that Darlene Ferrin has listen in her address book for resident ‘Dave Pond’. This has come about due to a message board user over at Voigt’s site stating that he himself has done thorough and extensive research of the area and states that at no time was a tenant listed under the name of ‘Kane’, Cane’ ‘Klein’ or Cain found to be living at 217 Eddy st. He then goes further by stating that, in fact, the only person in the area that can be found residing in or around that area is an ‘L. Cane’, and he was listed as residing it 455 Eddy st. He ends his statement with this conclusion:
"It seems likely that Cane did not live 2 streets away from Dave Pond who is listed in Darlene’s address book, but he seems to have resided two floors away in the same Apartment Building. He states that he believes the ‘Cane’ listed at 455 Eddy, is the man who we all know as Kane of 217 Eddy based on his own research showing that there is no other person within the area that is listed as residing there with the name Cane, Kane, Klein etc.
Now I know some will be quick to point out that just because no other resident was found with the name Kane or similar names, does not mean that ‘L. Cane’ listed at 455 Eddy was Lawrence Kane as we better know him. But to that I would quote the great Sherlock Holmes Philosophy….
"When all other possibilities have been eliminated, whatever remains, no matter how improbable or unlikely it may seem, must be the truth"
It is also worth noting that L. Cane appears to be his legal, legitimate name as he was buried in Nevada’s War Memorial Cemetery under the Name "Lawrence Cane". So, knowing that is the most likely name he’d have used to rent a Appt, that being his real name, coupled with the fact that no other Cane’s Kanes etc can be found residing in the area, I again point to Holmes comment above.

Is it known who ‘Dave Pond’ was to Darlene, or how the two knew each other? I have seen several claims made around the halls of the Web that Darlene, upon first arriving if San Fran, moved into a temporary half-way house on Eddy st, and this is claimed to be how Kane and Darlene knew each other or were aquainted. Now I obviously have never brought this up because it is, in my opinion, one of those "Extraordinary claims, require extraordinary Evidence" and I have never seen any to support that theory. But if it could be determined how Darlene knew this Dave P of 455 Eddy, then we may be closer to knowing the answer to that question either way because if….IF, it were discovered that she knew Dave P on Eddy from her time residing there for a short time, then that would be fairly significant and would be more than enough grounds to try everything humanly possible to discover if this was ‘Kane’ residing there under his legal name of Cane or not. To me it cannot be anyone else by process of elimination…..Nobody else is listed in the area called Kane or Cane, so if theres only one ‘L. Cane’ found, then it simply has to be him.
