I heard something about Kane’s mother living in the Bay Area and that he often visited her after he moved to Tahoe. Can anyone verify and/or specify which town? Thanks!

Someone probably can! I sure thought she lived with Kane (or he, her) at some point, in Tahoe too.

Interesting. I’m just trying to figure out where and when he’d be in the Bay after moving to Tahoe. From what I can garner most of the Z letters are postmarked from San Francisco during the week (with the exception of the Belli letter which was closer to Christmas and sent on a Saturday I recall —- maybe while visiting mother in the city for holidays??) and I’m curious about how those postmarked dates compare to verified or documented sightings of Kane in Tahoe. I assume someone has laid out this timeline somewhere, if anyone has a link to something like that I’d like to take a look!

It was probably in S.F. I know he lived there.

Lawrence Kane lived a 217 Eddy Street, San Francisco, less than a quarter of a mile from the Mason and Geary intersection, and at 408 Mcfaul Way, Round Hill Village, Zephyr Cove, Nevada.

He also lived just up the hill from my workplace the time in Cave Rock (NV)…don’t know the street name off the top of my head. A time in So. Lake Tahoe too.

Right, I’m trying to figure out where his mother lived though. Do you think she lived with him at either of those two locations during the time period of the murders/letters or did she have a separate residence? Might be worth going through some property records in the area from those periods, see if her name pops up. I seem to recall her name was Sarah Klein (neé Benjamin).

Was looking on Ancestry.com. Looks like Sarah Klein (neé Benjamin) was a Russian immigré born around 1905. She shows up in some census reports from the 1940s and a death certificate in Brooklyn in 1991. Going to keep digging and see if there are any census or property records related to her name in the Bay Area during the time period of the murders. It could be that she moved in with Kane for a time in California but wasn’t counted in any censuses or owned any property and then eventually moved back to NY. Right now it seems as though she was a NY native until death but I’m ready to be proven wrong.

The Polk’s Directories for San Francisco are here-

I looked in the 1968 directory and did not see her listed but don’t have the time to look through all of the possible directories right now.
