So I was searching papers again….came across this article that oddly enough had Qvale and a horse named Zodiac Zone in the same sentence…it is from August 22, 1974 Vallejo Times Herald.

Any way to check the connections here? Seems an odd Zynchro to occur with such a well known POI.

Any connection between Qvale and another horse owner named Vincent Kanowsky outside of horse racing or a long term friendship or anything? Kanowsky was the owner of Zodiac Zone and it appears they are both often mentioned in articles together, Qvale and Kanowsky that is. Of course that could just be because they were in the same business and had winning horses. Just an odd coincidence.

Ok…I figured out the link between Qvale and Kanowsky, or at least A link….they used the same Jockey…a rider named Volzke. That tells me they at least worked together in some manner.

Qvale’s Horse with Volzke as rider.

Kanowsky’s Zodiac Zone horse with Volzke as rider.

Both of these are in the same paper – June 3, 1973 Oakland Tribune

I believe the jockey was named Merlin Volzke.

Again…while none of this really means ANYTHING at all, I just found it interesting that there is a link to a horse named Zodiac Zone and Qvale….granted the earliest I can find anything on this horse is 1973, but still Zynchro….

Hi-

That is child’s play. In the summer of 1968, BEFORE Z’s first crime and letters, a horse named "Gun Barrel" ran against one of KQ’s horses at the Solano County Fair in Vallejo. A little while later, before the end of 1968, KQ had somehow taken ownership of "GUN BARREL" and was racing him under his silks. So he owned this horse before the letter using that term came out.

In about 2001, there was a horse named "Flying With Joy" that KQ owned. It was claimed out of its very first race by a barn called (I kid you not) "Para Dice Acres." That was in November of that year. The next time it ran for "Para Dice Acres" was on…December 20th.

In 1999, KQ was running a horse named "Sky Stalker"…

You can look all of those up. I have the documentation, so you can just satisfy your own curiosity with your own research if you think I make stuff up. But I can’t prove it means anything, so I don’t mention these oddities in my evidence. I already have enough of that anyway, LOL. BTW, I don’t necessarily consider these to be "zynchronicities."

here is my zone Z article posted, I do not know if it was called this in 69 but it is likely IMO.
viewtopic.php?f=97&t=1469

Zone Z was where to park if you were playing the golf course ( cheap long term parking as compared to other places )
Was this zone ever known to be a Lovers lane? many of our area courses P lots back then were.

the word zodiac was very common in the Sixties as many young people read their Zodiac horoscope in the papers 60-75 % almost daily.

It may be mentioned elsewhere, but aren’t thoroughbread horses named based on their lineage? So having multiple horses of similar name might not be uncommon, especially if he did any breeding, or liked a particular horse might go back and get a sib. I would think for the others, like "Gun Barrel", did he buy him because he beat his horse and wanted him? Same with any of the others, (though Para Dice Ranch is interesting). I could easily see "Flying with Joy" or "Sky Stalker" coming from a lineage with such a thing. (For example, unrelated to Z or X, "Mine that Bird" and "Summer Bird" from the 2009 season I thought were brothers or related, hence their "Bird" names.)

I could be interesting to trace horses X owned, and their lineage. But I also know the trainers are usually the trusted sources for horse purchases, any of them looked into? Even if you get, Kjell wanted what he wanted, that lends credibility potentially to the name choices being Kjell’s, irrespective of talent.

Don’t forget the 1974 Anonymous Note. And that KQ had a horse named Silveyville.

I watch you a lot and call you a lot. I saw you in Davis and Silveyville Road in Dixon. I’m pretty angry because your telephone doesn’t ring at night.
Bad things will happen if you don’t let it ring.

Hi-

I hope I missed something. Did someone tie KQ to Berryessa at some point? I was never able to do that even though they seem a perfect fit–a speed boat enthusiast living in Oakville and the "speed boat capital" of Northern CA. He denied ever having been there.

After Merlin Voltze’s riding days ended, he went on to be a horse racing judge or steward. Horses are often named after their parents male or female sires. maybe there are more horses named Zodiac. Carol Doda who was from Vallejo was often seen at Golden Gate Fields betting on horses. Aldo Ray who had been a policeman in Crockett and a movie star in Hollywood was often at the Vallejo fair betting on horses. Joe Dimaggio who grew up in Martinez also liked to gamble at the Vallejo fair.

Could the answer to Zodiac’s "My Name Is" code, be "Silky Sullivan"?

. Aldo Ray, who was in the movie, The Green Berets, was a navy frogman/UDT member. These men were the original Navy Seals from WWII. He was one tough son of a gun.

The distribution of the letters in the 13CC is 21213121. Silky Sullivan does not work, although I do admit I tried it once. Too many singletons.
