Mike_r posted this in another thread about KQ : "had a ranch near LB (although I have never been able to tie him to the lake–yet)"
Found this March 12, 1974 newspaper report, however I can’t acces the actual newsreport due to no member ship of the website.
Maybe you already have this info but just in case you don’t:

"owner KJell Qvale’s ranch in the., Napa Valley to greet his many friends on "St. Pat- rick’sDay"
Hi, english is not my first language so please bear with me
The name of KQs ranch in Napa Valley was "Green Oaks Stud Farm"
It was located 40 miles northeast of Golden Gate Fields.
I have tried to find out where exactly it was located, how close to Lake Berryessa but no luck so far
Anyone have that information?

Quote from this July 31, 1966 news report:
"Mr. Qvale purchased his first thoroughbred in 1953.
And a few years ago he bought the Napa ranch,
wich came equipped with a lavish house, guest house and pool."
Hi, english is not my first language so please bear with me
Qvale definitely did own property in Napa. From the Napa County Recorder’s website-
Great Seagull
Any possibility to get hold of the adresses connected to those documents ?
I believe that the 1963 "Filmer Jeanne W" deed, is Qvale’s purchase of the Green Oaks Stud Farm.
The 1964 "Bank Of America Trust And Savings Assn" deed of trust, what could that be?
And could the 1966 "Napa county flood control & water conservation district" easement deed, have anything to do with Lake Berryessa ?
Have you search for any other Qvale person in Napa?

Hi-
The ranch was on Money Road in Oakville. I’ve known about it since 1999 or so, LOL. That is between LB and Napa. He would have had time to drive there, change clothes/cars and make it to Napa to make the phone call in the time between 6:30 and 7:40 PM. What I am looking for is proof that he had gone to LB. A ranch is where you might also keep a junker car like the one with mismatched tires at LB. You’d have it there for the farm hands to run errands, etc. KQ was a speed boat lover and owned one on Lake Tahoe in the early 1960s and one on SF Bay. But even though LB was the "speed boat capital of Northern California" in the 1960s, he said he had never even been there. Wish I could locate and old-timer from the lake who knew the scene there in the late 1960s to ask him or her if they recall hearing KQ’s name at the lake.

I had not known that KQ had purchased his first horse as far back as 1953. I thought it was in the early 1960s. There was an article in the Daily Racing Form from the early 1960s in which the author speaks of getting a phone call in which the voice on the other end says, "This is KQ." I wonder if he may have said, "This is KQ speaking." It would have been a minor point to the author but a possibly significant one to someone like me.

Money Rd. in Oakville makes perfect sense, Mike. Back in the early 60s there was still a lot of ranch land on the upper valley floor. It wasn’t until the 70s that the grape growing really took off and wineries sprouted up everywhere. There is nothing but vineyards, wineries and a few homes there now.
Hi-
I might as well make it known that I have decided to place a "bounty" on certain info:
1) I will pay anyone who provides me with BONA FIDE info that links KQ to Lake Berryessa $100.
2) I will pay anyone who can link KQ to Peek-a-Boo Pennington $300. KQ is the only suspect who makes sense as having possibly come to the attention to the team of Pennington and Belli. He is the one who was both old enough and wealthy enough to have be linked to those two men. When the 1948 ad from Pennington first came to light, someone said it may be "too old" to be relevant to the Z case. That is because their suspect was not a wealthy man living in the Bay Area in the late 1940s and early 1950s! Those were KQ’s "salad days."
If you live in the Bay Area, we can do the exchange through my friend Jim, who is from Martinez. He can examine what you have and if it passes the sniff test, he can pay you on my behalf. Please no anecdotal info unless it is extremely compelling and we can meet the source. LOL, I had a guy come forward in early 2007 who filled my ears with anecdotal BS about KQ. Then I learned he was a complete fraud. Then another guy came along right afterwards with a juicy story about Pelissetti. As Bawart would have said, "That didn’t pan out, either." To go up against someone like KQ, you have to have documented facts, not stories.
How do you know you will be paid? Easy. I value my hard earned reputation as a factual researcher and I also work with Mr. Walter and would never humiliate myself on these boards by ripping someone off. Unlike self-proclaimed "experts" like Butterfield, who ripped me off for the LHR police reports (some of them, anyway), I am a man of my word. Period.

Hi-
I have never seen that article and I don’t have a membership either. ;( But KQ was big on St. Patrick’s Day because of his purchase of Silky Sullivan, and "Irish themed" race horse. There is a famous photo of KQ with Silky that ran in a magazine in August 1970. In that photo, KQ is wearing a lapel button that reads "Honorary Irishman." So he was into lapel buttons…
I also didn’t know that grape growing and the wineries didn’t start in the area where KQ’s farm was until as late as the 1970s. Thanks for the info.

Everything else notwithstanding, it seems pretty odd (at least) that someone who owned property in the area (it’s a short enough drive) AND who was heavily into boat racing, claims that he never even visited Lake Berryessa.
Then, on the flip-side, if KQ did frequent Berryessa (as a boat racer), you’d think it would be possible to verify this, i.e. that there’s a trail of some sort left…somewhere.
Certainly, if he KEPT a boat there – there’ll be records of it somewhere. Or so you’d think, at least.
You’d think. I looked through the Napa Register for the summer of 1969 and didn’t see results or references to even one boat race on LB. Don’t know if they didn’t consider that a sport or what.

the old timers in the MG (X started impoting them in 1947) world might be a source..i have little doubt that white sports car was an MG or an allard
Crow is a skunk and plays incredible mind games with me but I believe the car he was fidgeting with ("toggle switches" on dash) that night may well have been a Jaguar, and his GF was from Napa but was living in SF at the time she bought it. Did she buy it in Napa or SF? That’s the question. Guess who the biggest Jag dealer in SF was in 1968. KQ would also have imported Hartnell’s Ghia, and it was owned by an ex-employee of KQ’s. His name sure does come up a lot in weird places for someone who has nothing to do with the case, like Riverside, PH, a speed boat enthusiast living near LB, etc.
