I’ve been interested in the Zodiac case for many years, and found this site a few hours ago. Been reading numerous articles and posts… very interesting.
Anyway, I’m wondering if, in all the confirmed Z letters, are there examples where a word is spelled correctly in some instances, but mis-spelled in others? It might shed light on his cleverness. Is he really a lousy speller, or just pretending to be?

Yes there are quite a few, sometimes contained within the same letter. The Melvin Belli Letter is one such example on December 20th 1969 where he uses ‘control’ twice and ‘controol’ once. In the Debut of Zodiac Letter he knows how to spell ‘do’, but suddenly cannot spell it on The My Name is Letter on April 20th 1970, where he spells it ‘doo’. In the Button Letter on June 26th 1970 he spells ‘buttons’ correctly, whereas on the Dragon Card one month later he spells it ‘buttons’ and ‘butons’. There are lots more.
