I am new to the board after lurking for a couple of years, and have a couple of questions. 1) After recently visiting San Francisco and renting a bicycle for the day, I made a point to ride to the scene of the Paul Stine murder. My question is, why wouldn’t the whole neighborhood have looked out their windows after the sound of the gun shot at that quiet intersection? It seems there should have been a number of witnesses to the Zodiac since the homes in that area are so close together, and so close to the street. 2) Are Bill Armstrong, Mel Nicolai, or Jack Mulanax still alive? Thank you!

For question 1, this map provides a good explanation:
http://zodiacrevisited.com/interesting- … homicides/

In the first 7 months of 1969 there were 96 homicides in SF with a majority of them occurring around the area bordering The Presidio. The intersection probably wasn’t that quiet.
