Welp . . . we could see this coming, which is why Vallejo and SFPD and Riverside needed to prioritize the case full-speed ahead, while the window was open . . .

In a major setback for Law Enforcement investigators . . . Gedmatch changes its Terms of Service to require users to ‘opt-in’ if they want their DNA information shared with police.

Now it appears LE will have to get search warrants and/or take Gedmatch to court to access the majority of its database.

Genealogists call it a ‘stunning reversal’.

Not sure if existing customers will stay in the system and hopefully enough people opt in to further advance the capture of these psychopaths and bring about closure for jane and john doe relatives.

No, everyone’s out by default now. Any customer wanting to participate with LE has to log on and opt in.

It’s not that bad.

Right, but the problem is there are 1.2 million existing users with profiles, who are suddenly required to opt-in — and are otherwise useless to LE.

New users will likely opt-in at a reasonable level.

There’s a lot of activity that happens that LE isn’t directly involved in.

It was mostly civilians that highlighted GSK with police only doing the final ground work to complete the match.

Regarding the Zodiac case from what i’m following there seems to be a vietnam connection.

Simplicity, what do you mean by "Vietnam connection"?

Let me start again, There seems to be a vietnam connection for what i hope to be related to Zodiac.. This could be and most likely is related to the Santa rosa hitchhiker murders but i’m suspecting there’s an over lap.

What do i mean by a Vietnam connection? A US citizen that lived or is living in vietnam. I originally thought this had to do with a soldier missing in action but no.

Whatever it is the only link i found to anyone that’s ever been mentioned here was a POI that Soze made mention of which might be coincidental.

I’m a bystander, if LE wants secrets then maybe they shouldn’t utilise civilians.

Yes, dyslexia is probably my first undiagnosed language.

WTF does that have to do with the original post on this topic ?

Pipe down old timer.

The point aside from the vietnam aspect is plain as day. LE is and has utilized civilians to circumnavigate the legal implications as well as the various policies of these sites.

Hi,

It is not the GED Match policy that sunk the investigation. People are once again ignoring the main issue: The lab has been trying to coax DNA from the Z letters for 20 years and can’t find any. That is how we ended up with the sample from the front of a stamp in 2002: Holt apparently couldn’t find any DNA where it would have been had the sender licked stamps and envelope flaps. So she resorted to deception and it took 16 years from a reliable source from SFPD to break ranks and reveal the secret that I had already gone a long way in revealing (to the extent that the DNA was not a scientific sample, anyway).

After the arrest of the GSK, the conversation among Zodiac researchers quickly shifted gears to how DNA recovered by VPD could be used to reconstruct Z’s face, determine his nationality, hair and eye color, etc. (Hair color was reddish brown BTW) But what nobody was considering is this: Will DNA from the letter writer EVER be recovered from any of the true Z letters given that Z clearly did not lick his stamps and envelopes? (The reason we know that he didn’t lick anything should be obvious by now: it is now 20 years later can they can’t find his DNA on the letters after who knows how many attempts. Also, saliva testing of the letters by Alan Keel showed very disappointing results in the 1990s.)

HAD Z had licked his stamps and envelopes, this case would possibly have been solved long before the GSK case, where the killer kindly obliged us by leaving his DNA at the scenes of his crimes, lust like BTK did. The question is if Z left ANY DNA behind at all. And if so, can they find it on multiple letters so they know it is a scientifically viable sample?

All good stitch, the up most respect to you and the forums.

Look for the regular mundane cases yes this is a giant hurdle. For cases like GSK, Santa Rosa, zodiac etc there is too strong of a desire for justice that a websites policies won’t be able to prevent.

Regarding Mikes comments I have no reply.

I don’t wish to be known as someone that talks shit but also i don’t want to show my cards.

Hi,

Well, IF some scientifically viable, matching, verifiable DNA has been developed, I seriously doubt it was developed from saliva, because it seems to me that they would have developed that years ago. If there is some low cell count DNA from MULTIPLE letters, then maybe they are onto something. The info here is so cryptic that it is hard to tell anything. But given what happened to me in 2002, I’ll wait and see how this all plays out.

Thank you and respect you as well! That said what does Vietnam and DNA connection have to do with Zodiac ?
