I am very sad to report that Woodenigloo has passed away after an illness. Wood was an excellent researcher and friend to many in the Zodiac online community. She was active in SPF’s chatroom almost until the very end, and I admired her strength and spirit. I think we will all miss her greatly on the forum.

Thanks Drew,
Heard the sad news from Sandy. Way too young to past away. I have an “I Like Gaik Button”’ that she gave me years back.
Rest In Peace. And maybe give us a sign from Heaven, who the Z is!

You’re welcome, Zam. I am going to miss Wood being in my fantasy-football league this season. I told her that I would keep her team in our league for the upcoming season, and she was happy about that. Those buttons are great — Judith gave me one at the 2014 meet-up in San Francisco.

Sad news. Thoughts to her family and friends.

Very sorry to hear that.

I don’t know Chief, he’s very smart or very dumb.

I will truly miss her. She became a great friend to me. While I never had the pleasure of meeting her in person, we had some wonderful discussions privately of not only the Zodiac case, but her own adventures…which I am so glad she got to experience.

Wood and I became acquainted several years ago in the Zodiac chat room and became fast friends. She was smart, funny, and loved to discuss all manner of topics. Having grown up in Los Angeles, Wood shared stories about hanging out on the set of “Facts of Life” as well as attending tapings of “American Bandstand.” We enjoyed listening to all her stories, anecdotes, and gossip from that time period. She also earned a degree from Stanford and had a hand increating Microsoft’s Web-TV in the 1990s.

Wood also enjoyed sports and attended the 1984 Olympic games — one of her highlights was getting Michael Jordan’s autograph after a game. In 2015, I introduced her to fantasy football and discovered how incredibly competitive she was. Wood would join 5 to 7 leagues every season and won several first-place trophies. She clearly enjoyed crushing the competition, and one of her team names was “Beat by a Girl.” I suggested a nickname for her, “the Queen of Schadenfreude,” but she always denied this was true — often laughingly so.

Wood was also very generous. After the first episode of “Murder Basement,” she announced in chat that Tom needed a new microphone and proceeded to send him funds for one. A few years ago, I mentioned in chat how I had purchased an online archive-subscription, and Wood promptly reimbursed me for it. I have no doubt she was one of Tom’s most consistent and generous contributors over the years.

As David noted, Wood was also a very creative investigator. She got the ball rolling on the passport investigation of a certain suspect that led to new information being developed by AK Wilks. Wood was also able to tell us things about the masked IP address of a suspicious individual who once frequented zodiackiller.com’s forums. Although not everyone shares the same suspect, I think we can all agree Wood was a determined and tenacious researcher.

Wood discovered she was sick in April, but she continued to visit the chat room almost up until the time she passed. Her toughness and spirit during this time cannot be underestimated. She loved the “RV Lifestyle” and even illness would not prevent her from doing so. Wood was a great researcher and contributor to our forums, but most importantly, she was a wonderful friend.

In a Zodiac community often immersed with infighting, an extremely generous and thoughtful post Drew.

Really lovely drew. She would have very much appreciated these kind words. You truly honored her with such a thoughtful tribute.
