That’s good news, Morf. Could this mean they’ll have to build a family tree as they did with GSK?

It would be fantastic news if they were building a family tree, because to do that you need a full DNA profile. The genealogical research is the tricky part.

A couple days ago, I Got some really detailed info about the DNA work going on behind the scenes from an inside source. It’s encouraging but I think there is much more work to be done. Fingers crossed

how much detail can you pass onto us about the really detailed information you were given.

Hi Morf. Are you able to tell us if they got a full DNA profile or if they are at the genealogy phase yet? My theory is that they found DNA but it’s only a partial. It would be wonderful if the news you got is better than that theory.

Is it possible they only got a partial profile, but one they were able to combine with the other partial profile in use since 2002?

This is nice to hear about this update from Morf. Hopefully everything will come together soon, like dna matches , and print matches and access to handwriting of a potential suspect.

Keep dangling the carrots!

This delay is so very unfair to all those who have had fingers pointed at them as well as their friends and family!

The very few remaining victims such as Hartnell and Mageau are rarely if ever heard from nor are their families.

It seems some very general aspects of these "secret" "inside" disclosures could/should be revealed! At least it would serve to stir the pot and keep some interest going here rather than more "stay tuned" posts!

And tip off a living Zodiac to destroy evidence or plan a suicide (or worse) when the police arrive at his doorstep? I don’t think so.

Agree. I’m so glad Deangelo was captured rather than having a chance to escape via suicide.

The Zodiac case is very complex. I’d rather wait another year for a thorough resolution than have a quick solution that leaves many questions unanswered.

I much prefer a thorough resolution now.

I hope we also are able to learn what the methodology was – from which letters or evidence the DNA was collected, whether it was confirmed against samples from other letters, etc. If they used DNA from the CJB crime scene to identify her killer, and then said they believe that guy was Zodiac, based on handwriting and little else, for instance, that would be pretty thin.

With all the hoax and copycat letters, the possibility different killers were responsible for CJB, the shootings (LHR, BRS, PH), and the stabbing at LB, the methodology in naming a definitive Zodiac suspect could and should be very complex; way more so than simply announcing a name.

I don’t know if I agree with this. Certainly some crimes remain frustratingly difficult to prove, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know if they did it. There are few things that could narrow probability more than connecting someone with a murder. If the killer of CJB was identified to a reasonable degree of certainty, from there I can’t imagine it being difficult to establish to most reasonable peoples satisfaction if such an individual was, or was not the Zodiac. Whether or not you’d have enough evidence for a case, that’s harder to say. But I would be reasonably confident that in such a scenario other evidence would quickly fall into place.

It would be reasonable to assume such an individual would have ties to the locations of the other crimes, bear at least some resemblance to the Zodiac and have a background that would in someway make sense at least in hindsight. I’d imagine a lot of other evidence would come, a bit like pulling a thread loose, once you’ve got one end the rest would unravel. Or the evidence might point the other way. But either way, I think it would be improbable that CBJ’s killer would be identified, and not have a reasonable resolution one way or the other as to Zodiac question.

devils advocate..
The State has a good DNA profile
Z has only one sister she has no children. Z has only one son who is never going to have offspring and he has advocated to him that deep state exists and never ever give up your dna.
anyways you get the picture.. some people will have a much tougher path to link too beecause a DNA trail will run colder. Not sure how it works at a level where familys dont give up DNA at all or where lineage is ‘ending’. Does a break point exist when you cant find a good suspect to dive into his trash can. could this be the delay problem.

Based on Morf’s words, it sounds to me like we are a LONG way away from solving this case. He made it sound like there is nothing imminent.

I remain pessimistic.

I say, it’s fall. I mean that literally, not figuratively.

I’m not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread previously, but Tom Voigt stated last year that something "extremely gross" was included with Zodiac’s 1970 Halloween card that tied him to the murder of Nancy Bennallack. I wonder if this extremely gross thing contained his DNA?
