Albert Richard Voorhes, 27, of Syracuse, NY, a transient, has been sentenced to eight years in the BC Penitentiary on conviction by Mr. Justice JS Aikins in the spring session of BC Supreme Court here of a charge of attempted murder Voorhes pleaded guilty to the charge and the other three charges arising out of the same incident, rape, robbery with violence and assault with intent to wound, were not heard.FC Hislop, crown counsel, outlined the circumstances leading to Voorhes’ arrest at, Calgary July "27. He was motoring east on the Trans- Canada Highway out of Vancouver when he picked up two Ontario girl hitch-hikers, aged 21 and 22. He said at 1 am the motor party decided to pitch their separate tents at a campsite west of Golden. Then the alleged violence of beating, rape and" assault took place, following which the prisoner abandoned the two injured girls. Defense counsel Michael Hubbard of Invermere said his client "accepted full responsibility" and pointed out Voorhes admitted to drinking and taking drugs prior to the incident and sharing marijuana with them immediately prior to the violence.
Does anybody know more about this guy? If he was convicted for the LeGrand murder?
