he was found by her boyfriend in her tiny, box-like bungalow home on East Locus Street. There was no sign of rape. The house showed no signs of forced entry, and all doors and windows were locked. The green building is surrounded by a yard of high grass and a picket fence. It faces on the alley between Locust and Elm streets, about 50 yards frmo where the alley empties into Cherokee Lane on the east. The divorcee lived alone, the couple’s two small boys were staying with her ex-husband, a Lodi man. Police surmised there was a strong possibility that whoever killed the 28-yr-old waitress and convalescent hospital worker had known her. Neighbors, family members and acquaintances of the woman were questioned in an exhaustive investigation by detectives, sending them on leads that never fully crystallized. Suspects were interrogated, no one was taken into custody. After a few months of no progress, investigations dwindled. The case has never been given up as a loss by the LPD, just given a lower priority. Schneider’s case is unusual for the police department, but not one of a kind. One other slaying, that of an elderly man (Louis A. Withrow) in a lowbudget downtown hotel, also remains unsolved.

What is definitely a strange connection:

Caroline Schneider was a nurse aid, and was strangled. Two weeks earlier, Teresa Jean Matthews, had been strangled, too. And she also was a nurse aid. BOTH have been working in a Convalescent Hospital, latter one in Parkway Convalescent Home and Schneider in Vista Ray Convalescent Home. Both in the Sacramento, Lodi area.

There might be a strong connection to the employer (or colleagues) of those two Sacramento/Lodi (1) convalescent hospital (2) nurse (3) aids (4).

Distance from Sambo’s to her home is less than a mile..I guess she knew her killer and he had followed her to her place. After killing her, he took the keys and left the home, closed the door behind himself.
