"The partly nude body of a 28-year-old college coed brutally stabbed and beaten to death was found early Saturday afternoon -in her blood-spattered apartment here. The Alameda County coroner’s office said the woman, Dorothy Marie Dake, apparently had been dead since Tuesday. Berkeley police Sgt. Donald W. Lindenau said Miss Dake was "the victim of the most brutal murder I have seen in 21 years." Her body was discovered after neighbors in her apartment building at 2934 Adeline St., near Ashby Avenue, became concerned when they did not see her for several days. Police found Miss Dake spreadeagled on the bed, bound, gagged, and her face covered. The lower portion of her body was nude. Coroners officers said she had been stabbed numerous times with a kitchen knife and beaten with a five-pound barbell. Both weapons were found in the apartment. Police said she appeared to have-been sexually assaulted but said confirmation would have to await coroner’s tests. Investigators said the apartment was in a state of disarray. ‘Her bike, which she used to attend classes at the Grove Street Campus of the Peralta Colleges, had been chained outside for several days. One of the neighbors, Troy Harper, tried the door to the apartment and could not open it. He noticed a peculiar odor. He climbed the outside of the building on a ladder to look in one of the windows and saw the body. He called police.’ Residents of the apartment termed Miss Dake "very quiet." They said she had only been in here about 10 months, attending college. Her mother, Mrs. H.S. Dake, lives in Glendale."
Appears to be a rage-stabbing victim..possibly unrelated rape crime.
