Update: November 22, 2019

Inside the Hunt for a Serial Killer Who Dumped 6 Girls’ Bodies Along Roads Around Washington, D.C.

People Magazine Investigates looks at the case of the "freeway phantom," whose crimes terrorized the Washington, D.C. area in 1971-’72

Anything with, "Phantom" associated with a murder piques my interest.

Have they got anything they could get DNA from in this case. or have they basically got nothing at all to work from?

Watched it last night and LE got rid of all evidence before 1987. Sad they had DNA as well but gone now. Doesn’t look good for it being solved in the future unless someone comes forward with information.

People on the East Coast don’t call the highways, "Freeways". They do not, and never did. That leads one to conclude the freeway Phantom was most likely from the West Coast.

The media gave the name freeway phantom to the killer(s) and so the point about freeway/highway is pointless.

Yeah, I think the Zodiac is still the only serial killer to name himself.

The killer called himself, "The Free-Way Phantom, in this letter left in the coat pocket of one of the victims.

Was that before or after he made it in the press? All accounts I’ve read show media dubbing him the name.

I think it was after the media gave him the name but don’t quote me on it and can be wrong. He also called victims homes messing with their family after the crimes. It’s a good watch but again sad the police department thrown all the evidence they had on him out after 10 years.

Soze just skimmed quick over the show again and you are right and the media named him the Freeway Phantom before he left a note claiming to be. So yea doesn’t prove he was from west since he didn’t originally call himself that. Very well could have been from the east.

Guess some serial killers are fine with the name the media gave them. Zodiac I guess didn’t like been called the Cipher Killer and made sure he would pick his name he wanted to be called. Same with Son of Sam and wasn’t happy been called the 44 Caliber killer.

Earlier curious, Jacob and I were throwing out names of killers who felt the need to give themselves a name. Here we have a killer who wasn’t particularly motivated with status. Wondering what the psychology would say of both types – meaning – how would they normally be with people, work, dress, etc etc.
