The DNA found on the watch was used for DNA facial reconstruction. They now do know how the assailant actually looks like, however they do not know his name:

Very hopeful something will come of this if Riverside PD plan to use the GSK method. Vallejo are trying to develop a Zodiac DNA profile but it sounds like Riverside have more DNA immediately available? Bates as a potential Zodiac murder could be the most viable route to cracking the case.

It is a dark hobby we have and it eats away at me sometimes but this thread is a beacon of hope. Those people with a bad feeling in their guts most likely have 1m reasons for their relatives why they should not make a DNA test.
