Ok, this is the Austrian part of it:
In Austria there was a convicted murderer, Jack Unterweger, who was not only very intelligent but appeared to be 100% honest and smart, too. The problem with him was that he had not only killed one German woman in Austria (18) but probably also another one (23). He went into prison and was released quite too early. After having killed other women in e.g. Miami and three in Los Angeles, Shannon Exley, Irene Rodriguez, and Sherri Ann Long, he finally got caught and committed suicide.
Saw a documentation about it and what was interesting was his clear modus operandi:
– focussed on prostitutes
– sometimes beat them with e.g. a wooden stick
– in almost all cases he strangulated them to death, very narrowly and tight with a hangman’s knot
– this he actually did with pieces of cloth from his victims
The last part is the interesting one: Some MO is simply used rather rare than frequently (e.g. cutting genital parts, see Ed Gein, Issei Sagawa or the murderer of the black Dahlia). Not many killers acted like this, using eg. brasseries or stockings of the victims to strangulate them to death. Many, if strangulation was their MO, used their hands, cords, ropes or clothes hangers to do so. Jack Unterweger used underwear.
In addition to that, Jack Unterweger did in fact often wear a white suite. He also had a German shepard dog.
This combination is rare. I remember only some cases with e.g. a man with a white suite (e.g. Vern Lippold’s arrest), german shepard dogs’ hair found on the body or strangulation with the victim’s underwear (anybody remembering which case it was? same with the white suite?). Not only that Jack Unterweger killed in Miami, but also three victims in Los Angeles (and many others in e.g. Prague) make him also a suspect for cases in the San Francisco Bay area, with similar MO. Just thoughts.
After having killed two women in a first run, he later was tried for 11 others (one from Prague), plus 8 is known for being a suspect in Prague. Makes a total of approximately 20+ victims.
