*If this case has already been covered here, my apologies for the double post. I did a search on the victims names but nothing came up.

On February 12th, 1971, Patricia Mann (20) and Jesse McBane (19) left a Valentine’s dance at the hospital where Patricia was a nursing student around 11:30pm and subsequently disappeared. Their car was located by friends the next day in a local lovers’ lane spot. The car doors were locked and their jackets were left inside. Almost two weeks later, their bodies were found in a wooded area not far from the lovers’ lane. They were tied together near a tree and both were strangled to death with separate pieces of rope. The autopsy showed Patricia also suffered a laceration to her kidney from some kind of blow to her body.

As of 2018, the authorities have stated they have a POI (who is still alive) and indicated there may be viable DNA on the well preserved rope used in the murders. Yet, nothing has been reported since then as to results of any testing…and the case remains unsolved.

This terrible crime has several elements that are eerily reminiscent of Zodiac’s handy work: lovers lane couple, victims bound with rope in remote area, victims previously attended a holiday event, woman suffers more severe violence than the man, crimes happened in the general vicinity of a golf course etc. A reasonable assumption would be that a flashlight (another Z trademark) was utilized by the killer as it had to be quite dark in the wooded area where the couple were taken.

One of the spookiest aspects of the case, beyond the horrific crime itself, is that the victims bear a strong resemblance to Cecilia Shepard and Bryan Hartnell (at least imo). Very well could be coincidence, but I think it’s worth considering these murders as possible Zodiac crimes.
