The ransom sum in the Joseph Alex Rudy case was placed at corner Eddy/Mason in SF, btw..it was placed there twice, once on 27th of September ’69 – the date of the LB attack – and the second time on 6th of October, with Rudy being arrested. Eddy/Mason is only two blocks away from Geary/Mason.

That is, I want $10,000 in $10’s and $20’s in old bills — put the money in a paper sack. Go to the corner of Eddy and Mason Streets, San Francisco, at 11:00 PM, Saturday, put money inside door of Ambassador Lounge and leave. QT, did you ever find any info on Joseph Alex Rudy? I can’t even find a DOB on the guy. I’m interested in seeing the ransom not and have been thinking of submitting a FOIA request to see if they would release it.
I would think Rudy would have probably been in jail during the Stine murder, but one thought is that it was the perfect opportunity to clear his name if he was a Zodiac suspect. Even if he wasn’t a suspect, maybe he was worried about his handwriting linking him to Zodiac so he had someone kill Stine while he was in jail, which would rule him out as a suspect. Rudy was pretty short, 5’6", but was heavyset. I would like to learn more about him. I think he died May 19, 1980 and is buried at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma, CA, but I’m not sure if it’s the right Joseph Rudy or not.

How does this guy link to the Susan Nason murder?
EDIT: Nevermind. I didn’t realize Susan was kidnapped… I am familiar with the story of the woman who had a repressed memory of her father murdering Susan. He was convicted of the murder and later released because, well, it’s kinda stupid to convict someone with no real evidence. According to the daughter, Susan had come over to play and they went somewhere in a van that had a mattress in the back. The man supposedly raped Susan and moments later he bashed her head in with a rock. I didn’t pay attention to the dates, but this does not line up with a kidnapping… thank you for posting the info on Joseph Rudy being arrested for collecting the ransom. I’m very interested to see what he looked like and to see his handwriting if possible. I’ll see what I can come up with.

I think he was only arrested for picking up the ransom, not for her murder. He said that he did that without the intention to collect some ransom money, which might even be true.
