I have just been blown away by an announcement by the Metropolitan police. Get your conspiracy theory hats on……
In August 2010 a British (sorry Smithy, Welsh) man was found dead in his flat, padlocked inside a sports bag and in the bath. The heating had been left on (during summer) apparently to speed up decomposition. The man was Gareth Williams, codebreaker for MI6 (British Foreign Intelligence). A thorough investigation was carried out by a coroner who concluded that Mr Williams was almost certainly murdered because of a few hard facts:
– neither his dna nor fingerprints were on the padlock used to lock the bag nor on the bath (why were his own fingerprints not on his own bath unless rubbed off?)
– a test subject was unable to recreate the same situation without someone else taking care of the padlock (according to sky news the test subject was a yoga expert and made 400 failed attempts…)
– the heating being left on during summer is suspicious.
– his employer MI6 did not notify anyone that he was missing for over a week. Considering the sensitivity of his job they have never satisfactorily explained why no-one thought to check why he’d not been turning up to work and ceased all contact.
That all sounds like reasonable suspicion and everyone thought the investigation would continue, however the Met have today announced that they are satisfied he died through a self-inflicted accident and that no-one else was involved. They have not managed to explain away any of the coroner’s findings but merely claim that because they have found no evidence of a second person, there couldn’t have been one.
I have no idea what to make of that, sounds like a complete whitewash to me but I’m sure we’ll never hear any more on the matter.
