I have a general interest in serial killers and unsolved crime, something that I probably share with the vast majority of visitors to this site. I don’t know how many of you have been following the Long Island Serial Killer, but it’s one that I dip into every few months to see what’s developing, and recently that’s been very hard.
One of the foremost sites, longislandserialkiller.com, is now just a domain for sale. Some quick googling reveals that the owners shut it down because of trolling and harassment, which I find quite hard to believe (look at some of the stuff most Zodiac admins have had to deal with over the years). Yes, this case differs in that there are living relatives whose wounds are fresh that need to be considered, but that also means the need for investigation is also more pressing than cases as cold as Z.
The websleuths sub-forum for LISK has now been moved to some mystical private area which, I assume, you can now only view/post with a prior invite. Again the weak reason was similar to that given above.
These are the two prominent ones but there is now not a single LISK-centric forum available online that’s worth a read, even most decent blogs come up ‘deleted by user’ or ‘no longer available’.
I find this all a bit odd for such a prominent ongoing case. I would love to think that the dominant online investigators have actually found something solid and have been asked to quieten down by LE, and now they work in secret on the private Websleuths board. That’s probably very wishful thinking though.
I know TheForeigner has made some brilliant observations on this case in the old zodiackiller.com board, well worth a google if you are into this one. I have no idea if she’s one of the fabled few with a key to the websleuths private kingdom of knowledge but even if she were I’m sure she couldn’t share that info with us.
Anyone one else into this case that’s found a new harbour for decent conversation on the topic? If not we can always get one started here, but without access to those other resources it would be a frustrating exercise in going over old ground, I feel.

There used to be a very detailed thread about this case, but we had to reboot the forum since then. It was lost. Brakeme might have some of that content backed up?

3rd
sorry buddy, not in this case

So again, a lot of useful discussion lost. A bit strange.

I’ve done some more digging and have found several blogs that seem to have been started up by people who were very active in the original LISK forum and Websleuths forum. The general behaviour and childishness of these people is unbelievable, it’s even broken down to the extent that they’re accusing each other of being the murderer. So I probably have my answer, rather than the information being locked down to a few talented investigators it’s probably just been shut down because there was indeed an unbelievable amount of idiots ruining it for everyone else. I hope something like lisk.com returns as it was a good site.

Don’t be so surprised, the same thing happened to the old Cabin 28/Keddie Murders forum, living family members and friends of the victims and one of the suspects all joined and turned it into a free-for-all, then the random nuts noticed the ongoing melee, fed the fire and it spiraled out of control until the owner suspended it.

It happens.
