Hi-
I highly recommend this book. It is a difficult read and is 800 pages. But I think it is worth it. I felt like I knew very little about this case as I read this book (up to page 550), even though I have read about JTR on and off since I was about 15 years old. The author is out of his mind angry with the police and "Ripperologists" and spills his bile a bit too much for my taste. It ends up detracting from his research, IMHO. But his story of corrupt police, a Masonic conspiracy (which I have always viewed with a jaded eye given its necessary scope), suppressed evidence and silenced witnesses is very interesting. I don’t agree with every point he makes (i.e., I believe that "Juwes" is closed to "Jews" than it is to "Jubelo, Jubela and Jubelum"). However, his overall story is exhaustively researched, carefully footnoted–and unexpectedly compelling. And if he is right, handwriting seemingly goes right out the proverbial window!
