New documentary on Netflix about the 2006 murder of Crystal Theobald in Riverside and her mother’s use of MySpace to draw in the street gang members who killed Crystal, in her efforts to find out which gang member killed her daughter after she screwed up the investigation by initially picking the wrong person out of a photo lineup. Meth, kids…don’t do it.
First, did the makers of this documentary honestly believe that going the sympathy route was the right way to go here? Sympathy for the methhead, slightly unhinged mother and her drug-game involved sons, sympathy for the Mexican gangbangers, legal and illegal, and their parents, who 15 years later still profess they had no idea their little angels were anything other than good, wholesome boys…and who still can’t speak English, more than 20 years after coming to this country…but that’s another topic…
In fact, the only people in the documentary that didn’t get showered in sympathy by the woke production team were the police who solved the crime. A sign of the times, no doubt…
