This is all jumping around in the same "we just don’t know" bracket for me.

We don’t know to what extent Ross was mentally ill.

We don’t know to what extent he was institutionalized.

Speculating on what a man who was considered "schizophrenic" at the time would have been capable of – or not – strikes me as pretty much pointless. We have zero details on his actual condition.

Demonstrate that he might have been, plausibly, around LHR, BRS, LB and PH – and then we’re talking. It boils down to that at this stage.

Final point: There’s a clear connection from the initial cipher (which was made by someone who wasn’t completely out of it) to the later ones. They’re strikingly similar, formally (design wise) speaking. If there’s some kind of deterioration in play here, it isn’t immediately obvious.

i live 90 miles from Chicago. i could get in my car, leisurely drive to Chicago,
rob a bank and easily be back home for dinner. i have no cellphone and
i don’t stop to buy gas or i don’t take the toll road. how does anyone prove
i was in Chicago for the afternoon 45 years later. get real. most all of what
we are reasonably going to establish about Ross at this point is speculation
or circumstantial. could some of you folks quit the Sgt. Friday routine?

BBP–YOU are speculating, WE all are speculating. Nobody knows and that is the point. We are all just discussing. We don’t know what the Santa Cruz P.D. did or didn’t do. We don’t know what the S.F.P.D. did or didn’t do, and while we know the R.P.D did look at Ross, we don’t know to what extent. I don’t know why you are getting defensive.

i’m not defensive….i’m accusatory. if LE had seriously considered Ross
as a suspect, they would have fingerprinted him. they didn’t! the 64 dollar
question is, Why not? i say the answer is, they screwed up big-time!
if they would have followed up then, we may not even have been on
a site like this talking about Z 45 years later. and, i think perhaps
some of his victims could still be alive. there’s some speculation for you.

How do you know Ross was never finger printed?

Why the smart ass replies?

I was asking genuinely. Ross certainly could have been fingerprinted at some point and probably was when he was arrested in Santa Cruz. Are the FBI records about Ross pertaining to Zodiac? Sorry…I don’t remember every FBI statement in regards to fingerprints.

What member name did you use here before?

I don’t care about David B. and I cannot diagnose his craziness (or lack thereof), just as I cannot diagnose Ross and surely my opinion wouldn’t matter.

Now as to Ross Sullivan’s fingerprints. Just found a reference- no time so lucky I found it as I wanted to quote it:"Toschi said he cleared Sullivan’s prints against Riverside’s and Stine’s cab at my [Peterson] request."
Riverside PD did the same and he was cleared. Also, RSPD claims his alibi was tight ,as they confirmed it. Remember, at that point they were not overtly obsessed with BB.
The Timex watch band -buckled-but torn from watch face- circumference does not match that of a large built person such as Ross Sullivan.

Where did bruce3 get that info?

That’s utterly irrelevant.

This isn’t about keeping someone alive as a suspect in the case. That’s easily done. Look at the list of "suspects" associated with the Z case, many of whom are still being – precisely – kept alive by their proponents because nobody can prove there is no connection.

The latter is neither here nor there. It’s not a valid argument. I can’t prove that my grandfather was NOT in Vallejo on the 4th of July 1969.

and, if that’s true about the prints, we can forget Ross as a suspect.
i would certainly think that! however, let’s see the prints. Morf
has said on here before his prints weren’t on file with the FBI.
fingerprints aren’t speculation. so, where’s the proof. an unknown
poster’s story is not good enough for me.

Where does this quote come from. I click the link and it didn’t take to the quote only to your posting it. On Tom Voights site not that long ago, Bruce once gave a very detailed explanation on why he didn’t think Ross was the killer and he didn’t include this information at all.

To put it point blank I don’t trust "bruce3" implicitly. He doesn’t present his finds in a manner which is particularly trustworthy. Whether that is down to him being a generally somewhat messy presenter of facts, or down to something else, is not for me to say. But there it is.

That was NOT Bruce3’s original quote. It didn’t say anything about fingerprints. Only that Toschi asked Riverside about Ross.

My mistake – I’ve fixed the link.
