I was astonished in 2018 (while channel surfing during March Madness) to realize that Sr. Jean (Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt, BVM) was my eigth grade teacher at St. Brendan’s elementary school in Los Angeles, CA in 1957! She was also the prinicipal of the school.

She has been the chaplain of the Loyola Men’s Basketball team in Chicago and achieved Internet fame in 2018 as Loyola went from being the underdogs to the final playoffs.

I marveled at the thought she was still alive and so vital when she was interviewed on tv. Her 100th birthday was the following year. How many people know where their 8th grade teacher is or even think about them after a few years?

Anyway, she’s back! There is a game on CBS today at 11:00 PDT (NCAA Tip-Off) followed by the game between Loyola-Chicago and Oregon State.

Sr. Jean was a fantastic teacher and it is so inspiring to see her still at her age now of 101 years!
