Uh, is that so you can find your guitar if the lights go out?

Yes. Hahaha. Don’t forget I’m still visually impaired. Actually that had nothing to do with it I’m just impossibly attracted to shiny, glowing things.
Just finished putting my DR Neon strings on one of my basses. They are green (as you can see) and even more so under black light.
Nice!!! What kind of bass is that?
It’s probably not what you think it is lol. It’s a ‘vintage’ musicman copy. Vintage being the make.
I got it off Ebay a few years back cause I want an MM but I aint shelling out the money for one. I have a Fender Jazz and that’ll do for proper expensive basses …for now. I like getting a good deal on instruments that I like the look of and then setting them up, replacing pickups, pots and whatever else needs done to make them playable. The ‘Vintage’ didn’t need anything done to it but it was an older model and the new ones had Wilkinson pickups so I fitted one of those to it.
Interesting! I am a bass player too — I’m heading to Boston next month for a writing session, I don’t want to travel with mine (fender) so I’m looking for something cheap I can pick up while I’m there. Always fun to find something unique for a bargain!
Very cool. I have a cheap piece of crap bass, but thinking of getting a BC Rich Warlock once tax return time comes back around. Either that or a new guitar since I gave my guitar (also a generic pile of crap) to my son. My ex-smashed up my last two guitars (a Warlock and a Peavey Raptor) so I pretty much quit playing 6 or 7 years ago, but since I’m not with her anymore, I think it is time to get back to it.

When you can do it, treat yourself to the one you really want. Nothing says "closure" like living large with the perfect instrument for you (that could sound kind of creepy, but you know what I mean!)

Wish I could afford to do that. But I don’t need anything fancy. I can get the sound I want out of a pretty cheap guitar, but I’m pretty picky when it comes to amps.

I’m gonna try and list the instruments I own and have owned. More to see if I can remember and get them in order (and before I forget forever lol). This would be over the last 23-24 years I guess.
Ok guitars first (because I started on them)
Gibson Epiphone Strat – Hockey Stick headstock, maple fingerboard, HH, All black with black pickguard.
Aria Pro II, White body, rosewood fingerboard, black pups HSS, locking nut and floating(ish) trem. Chrome hardware.
Charvel Spectrum in seagreen with a white scratchplate. SSS.
Jackson Dinky LT in blue with slight sparkle. HSS active relex silvers pups. Floyd Rose.
A Yamaha Pacifica. Natural finish. HSS.
A PRS copy (can’t remember the make). Preferred it to actual PRS’s I’d tried lol.
A Tanglewood semi acoustic in quilted dark blue.
A Takamine copy – semi acoustic bowl back with the wooden leaves on it.
A Fender Squire Stagemaster. Candy Apple Red, white pickguard. Reverse headstock. HSS. Floyd Rose. Fitted a DiMarzio Super Distortion HB to it.
A Les Paul copy – No Brand Franken-guitar that I put together from scratch with everything bought from EBAY (Still chooping and changing things on it and more work needed but that’s what it’s for).
Out of those I still have the Jackson Dinky, the Takamine copy, The Squire Stagemaster and the Les Paul copy.
Basses.
A Hohner Jack (Headless). Black
An Aria pro II magma in Red.
A Fender Jazz. Traditional colour with white pickguard.
An the ‘Vintage’ MM copy.
I think that’s them all. Bound to have forgotten something, maybe not. Will there be any more? ….. maybe. I’m kinda thinking about and always looking for a Charvel Spectrum on EBAY. It didn’t suit me soundwise way back when but I still think it looks cool. It would get new pups fitted to it if I did go for one. My other pipe-dream, memories of youth would be an Ibanez JEM in psychedelic swirl (Stevie Vai). Basswise, well a proper grown up MM of course.
In the next installment I’ll try and remember the amps and effects I’ve owned and still own. Then there’s the recording equipment. You would think I was a professional. You would be mistaken. An over enthusiastic amateur. Professional acquirer probably.
Thanks, traveller1st — I always like to see what different kinds of stuff people collect and play, and what they hang on to and why.
I’ve had:
Cheap Peavey black beater bass, year unknown (sold it)
1979 chocolate-colored fender p-bass, heavier than heck but amazing sustain (traded it)
1995 Guild acoustic guitarron (Mexican bass) with terrible pickups (still have it)
1973 brown fender mustang short scale (my main electric, love this bass)
1990 Kaye upright 3/4 acoustic bass with tension pickup (still have it)
I dream of an American-made fender fretless j-bass — maybe someday.

That is a great list!! Out of all those, which is your favorite?

I was kinda hoping you were going to go with the Jackson!! I love their guitars, but have never owned one. Yet.
