My Zodiac Related Story
Growing up in Napa in the late 70’s and 80’s I was very much aware of "The Zodiac."
We spent time at Berryessa swimming, flying kites and having picnics.
I read one of the "Z" books sometime in the 80’s.I was intrigued by the 340 Cipher-even then.I remember thinking that would be great to solve.Side to side I would twist it and turning it up and down and all around-thinking there just might be an easy solution.
As the fascination of the code faded away along came a great fear of "The Zodiac."
I always told myself, he would be long gone by now, I should not be so afraid but I always had this image in my head he could get me.That fear did not leave me.
In the 90’s I met a young man and we were dating and happy.One evening we were leaving Napa to head back to Travis AFB.He said he wanted to drive the back way and stop at Lake Berryessa.Of course I said no-it was late and very dark.He was so determined he kept pressuring me to go.I said, hell no, you did not grow up here, I did and I am not going to the lake to get killed by the "TheZodiac Killer."
He kept persisting even as we were now driving home in the direction I wanted to go.He pulled into a parking lot and
tried again insisting we go to the lake.By this time he was angry and frustrated and I was determined to stand my ground.At this point we were not the happy couple and we both were fighting and very upset.He reached into his pocket and threw a box at me angrily and said he had wanted to go up to the lake to propose to me. Needless to say one should not use the Zodiac to set the tone for a marriage proposel.

That is quite a story! Tell me, did you end up getting engaged and married to this man and what did he have to say when you explained why you didn’t want to go to the lake?

When I explained to him why I did not want to go-he said I had nothing to be afraid of.I had to go with my own instinct.
We did get engaged-that evening-even through all the fighting and Mister Zodiac looming over the moment.We stayed together 8 years.We did not get married.He was a control freak and I am a Capricorn who is not easily controlled.

Why any man would plan to pop the question with a ring at a murder site is beyond me! Did he ever make you suspicious btw? Did he look anything like Z? Surely there must have been plenty of other romantic spots he could have picked.

BTW, have we ever looked into the signs of Z’s victims? Possibly he went after them in an order?

That last paragraph is a great finale read for anyone familiar with Z – when you said you’d pulled into a parking lot my mind started racing, I was half-expecting you to say you saw a car crawl up behind….. the when your boyfriend started getting angry and reached into his pocket I was expecting him to pull out a 9mm
