I understand the circles (connections) you speak. Its almost like a computer network chart if you laid it all out by who was tied to what. You may be right about Timothy Leary having some ties but the largest ties I have found thus far, believe it or not, was Theodore Roosevelt. Strange I know. Don’t recall looking into Timothy Leary, specifically, but I am sure I have as I read everything many moons ago on the peace movement (button letter).

Edit:

I should note that when I am talking about ties I am referring to the case as a whole and not just this, specific, letter.

I totally understand. Look up Timothy Leary’s stay with Eldridge in Algeria and the history of the Beatles song “come together and how it was written for Leary. I think it’s also notable that for a short time in Folsom Prison he shared the adjoining cell to Charles Manson. They had conversations. It’s a trip how he kinda fits in the middle of some of the topics on the 1978 card.
I was reading this book about him a little, apparently he was quite popular in prison. A celebrity. Very gregarious.
If I’m not mistaken he even escaped the same prison as Donald DeFreeze, Soledad I think. Then bailed out to Algeria.

There was a man who had stories galore and loved to tell them.

So full disclosure, I started thinking maybe the 1978 letter writer was around him somehow, prison maybe. And the dates and places worked out.

I did not know that Daryl Gates birth name was Darrell. (I checked and you are correct, Soze! :D )

I ran into something similar with one of the Manson Family members. Bill Vance used a number of aliases, one of them was Dwayne Schwarm, a name he used to get a driver’s license. Schwarm was an actual person who Vance or someone in the Family had stolen checks from. The true Schwarm spelled his first name Duane on his checks, for his marriages etc. even though his birth record states his first name was spelled Dwayne.

I’m stumped as to how Vance would have known the true spelling of Schwarm’s name.

So, I don’t need to do a lot of explaining here on this forum, here is a post I did at the blog about Bill Vance, the stolen checks and the aliases.

The road you are on, thedude, I was on 10 years ago. This road, in my opinion, isn’t a dead end. Sadly, and I don’t need to look up Leary to know this, but Leary is a dead end. You might be successful in finding other things that concern Leary. It was the 60s when the Zodiac started and the Zodiac makes several counter culture mentions. However, you will not be able to tie Leary to everything the Zodiac ever did or said because not everything is counter culture. People do the same with the Navy. The same with mining. Etc. Etc. These are things he is purposely telling you via his own words or the choices he has made. He knows what he is giving the person critiquing the crime scene or reading the letters. The question here is what meaning do these things have for him? Its through the study of this that I think one ultimately finds the man as, the reasons are likely, emotional in nature.

Hi Soze, thank you for showing an interest. I appreciate your thoughts.
I should clarify something. I wasn’t trying to connect Timothy Leary to the zodiac. I can connect my subject to Timothy Leary. The same prison at the same time. Then when he was released, the 1978 letter we’re talking about. It’s just another strange coincidence.
