Hi,

And no, before everyone gets up at arms, I never told Zoellner that I had solved the case "single-handedly." Ed was with me the day I met Zoellner, so I am not trying to steal his credit. Ed left on his own terms in about July 2000, three months before the October 2000 article came out. I was not interviewed for this new article, so it is all what Tom recollects from 2000.

Good review, Mike. I’m reading the book right now. Kindle tells me I’m a few pages away from the 50% mark and it’s getting really good.
Zodiac was a screwup. He left behind five breathing victims, two survivors, bootprints, possibly fingerprints and palmprints, tiretracks, eyewitnesses, and earwitnesses. If the APB had gone out for a WMA he would have been locked up in ’69.
Wonderful article Mike R on your POI! And I like how he discribed you.
Kudos!

Hoping to finish your book soon! Real life got in my way.
I’ve always found your POI interesting, especially since I know people that knew him.

A great article, increasingly rare these days for one to be so balanced. I am starting this book in a couple of weeks and it certainly confirms that I made the right decision with my latest addition to the true crime collection.
Mike – I won’t ask for any info on your meeting with KQ described in the article (I hear the book will cover it in detail), but the reporter’s account of Qvale’s reaction (the pacing and hand-wringing) during his own meeting seems unusual for sure. It sounds like the kind of embellishment a journalist would normally add but I get the impression this author wouldn’t go to truth-stretching lengths like that, especially when he seems on the fence as to the validity of the suspect.

Hi,
Tom told me about the hand gesture in 2000. The funny thing is that KQ was known for rubbing his hands together like that in anticipation of something that excited him, like before a big race. People normally rub their hands together in anticipation of something they are going to relish or enjoy, like a nice meal, not something that severely troubles them. You can form your own conclusions as to what may have been gong through his head.

Hi,
Just a quick correction: Tom says that KQ "agreed" to meet with me, as if I had been hounding him for a meeting. I never wanted to meet with Qvale and interview him. That was the job of the police. It was Qvale who asked to meet with me in 2006. Since the police had done nothing to investigate my claims, I decided that I had to take that step in order to get Qvale to tell a story, so that I could try to "poke holes" in it, as Ken Narlow had advised me in 2000. So that is exactly what I did.
