Found Doug Oswell’s Post. re: The Motarboard Hood.

By Douglas Oswell (Dowland) (12.90.16.156) on Thursday, September 20, 2001 – 10:27 pm:
Scott, we need to ask ourselves whether that hood signified anything special to Zodiac. I’ve argued the point that it would have been very easy to fashion the hood from a graduate’s black gown and mortarboard. That would have symbolized something to Kaczynski, who, several months earlier, had abandoned the career (academia) for which he and his parents had dedicated his entire life up to that point.

On Tom V’s old forum, posted 2001.

Motarboard post, 5/14/2001 in Tom V forum:

By Douglas Oswell (Dowland) (73.philadelphia01rh.15.pa.dial-access.att.net – 12.90.16.73) on Monday, May 14, 2001 – 08:57 pm:
I suspect a graduation hat(those ‘square corners’) was used as a base and the black cloth sewn on ;so that would bring up height.

So Hewitt’s either a thief, or did a piss-poor job of researching the idea of Kaczynski being the Zodiac.

Seriously, if you Google "zodiac kaczynski" it’s impossible to miss unazod.com and Doug Oswell’s research. Are we to believe Hewitt didn’t bother to read any of it? That’s quite the stretch. Plus they were both members of my discussion forum — at the same time, mind you.

There is just no way TK could go up to someone and stab them.

I find it hard to believe someone who had as much trouble living around people. And soon wouldn’t could be Zodiac. Had someone bring up the British ties which long have been apart of Zodiac. TK have British ties?

Mageau, is such a dead end on description for me. I don’t take anything he said as reality. Couldn’t have gotten a good look. And when he recounted it years latter his mind couldn’t be good due to substance abuse. Will never know if John’s was picked up by Zodiac. But I doubt it. And if it was, than that’s bad for TK being Zodiac. TK couldn’t talk to women, so I doubt TK was up for picking them up to abduct them.

How was Ted Kaczynski writing the July 31st letters and mailing them from San Francisco, attacking Michael Mageau and Darlene Ferrin at BRS on July 4th, and committing attacks in September and October, as well as writing numerous letters mailed from San Francisco in 1970, when Ted Kaczynski and his brother were in Canada

"The moment that crystallised this yawning gulf between them came, paradoxically, at a time when the brothers had never felt more close. It was 1969 and they had spent the whole summer together, travelling huge distances across Canada in search of a plot of land where Ted could begin his anti-civilisation mission. At the end of the trip, as they were driving back to Chicago, they camped overnight in the grasslands of Nebraska."

"Kaczynski taught at Berkeley from September 1967 until June 1969, and then quit. It was the end of his academic career. He spent the next two years looking for land in Canada, Alaska, and finally Montana. There, he bought 1.5 acres about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) outside the small town of Lincoln, Montana. With a little help from his brother David, Kaczynski built a one-room cabin measuring about 10 feet by 12 feet (about 2 meters by 3 meters). The cabin had no electricity, no telephone, and no indoor plumbing. He got drinking water from a nearby creek. It was to be his home for the next sixteen years."

There is a section of Hewitt’s book that addresses this whole argument…

The problem with naming a suspect with so many holes in theory is when you have to create reasons for why the suspect works.

Well, after a while, explaining why TK works almost perfectly as Zodiac is like having to explain a good joke. If people don’t understand, nevermind, leave them behind.

I do not think TK had the personality of Zodiac. And again I doubt any profiler would name TK.

Keep in mind that nobody at the FBI was anywhere near to imagine the Unabomber could be a mathematics genius, possibly the youngest Harvard graduate, who chose to retreat in a cabin in the woods with no electricity and no running water for more than 20 years! How many suspects names did they have? Thousands. And TK was not in their list.

How could anyone read the Zodiac letters and think they fit Ted Kaczynski‘s personality? Ted was always the smartest guy in the room and I simply cannot see Ted lowering himself to the sort of shenanigans Zodiac pulled.

Smartest guy in the room… That doesn’t sound like Zodiac to you? I’m not saying Kaczynski was Zodiac, but I really don’t think he should be thrown out as a suspect because the things that do make him a good suspect are pretty significant things. It is hard to see him actually murdering in person, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible or that he couldn’t have been the one writing the letters, drawing the bomb diagrams and creating the ciphers. Those are things that really make him stick out as a suspect. You could argue that Ted was a loner and wouldn’t have worked with another person or people, but that cannot be proven. Same can be said to anyone that claims he would work as part of a team in this whole thing. Nobody knows for sure.

Agreed! And the fact that he mailed taunting letters to San Francisco newspapers makes him even more fascinating as a Zodiac suspect. He would travel to other areas to mail these letters, which he also did when he mailed the bombs…

One thing I have always wondered about is if he had any contact or anything to do with any of the people that were involved in his MK Ultra "testing" while at Harvard. There was a lot of this going on in the bay area during the Zodiac murders so it could possibly all be tied together.
