You don’t need to bother with the attempt of ridicule, with "I thought you would have figured this out for yourself" and "You’re trying to hit me with dumb things". No, I am asking why an intelligent man who built up a million dollar empire, would murder a taxicab driver, pass a cop car, then travel home, and inside 3 minutes, head back to the intersection that he narrowly evaded capture. I bet 99% of people on this forum have asked the same question. He saw a cop car heading towards him with sirens on (or off), heading in the general direction of the crime scene, yet "didn’t think anybody has seen him or was looking for him". He could have put two and two together. Donald Fouke must have got a good look at him. He described "a white male sporting a crew cut, wearing a three quarter length navy blue jacket with an elastic waist, rust colored or brown pleated trousers and tan engineering style footwear, with hair graying in the rear". So, apparently Qvale must have been noticed for a considerable time going by this description. Even if he thought he hadn’t been noticed, the concept of a man who built an empire, thinking in any way, it’s a good idea to have returned back to an intersection where he had just passed the police, is not the most sensible thing to do.

"You’re trying to hit me with dumb things and they’re not working". If you don’t want to be challenged on anything, and just want everybody to agree with you, then you shouldn’t have written a book. This is the problem with too many people in the Zodiac community in 2020. When you constructivley challenge or disagree with a suspect or cipher solution proposed by somebody, too many times you are met with defensive language such as highlighted (and sometimes obscenity and vitriol). I am not trying to work you over, I am pointing out a question many people have wrangled with. And no, I won’t bring up the 50-year-old topic, I don’t want to upset you anymore with any more low blows. Maybe I’m just not as clever as you Mike, because I should have figured this all out, just like you have.

Remember this statement you posted to somebody on my site, when you were challenged: "I am still interested in what your perspective is in your critiques of my research. Are you a rank amateur (which is what I believe) or do you have some standing?". Clearly, anybody who doesn’t agree with you is a rank amateur. However, when you gleefully post the 4 and 5 stars given by people regarding your book, do you vet them on their standing or professional status. Anyway, I won’t bother you anymore.

Somebody who was inherently too smart to be ensnared by geographic profiling (or a pattern of murder)

Hi Richard,

We must not forget he was smart enough (my thinking) to deliberately attack in 4 different Police Jurisdictions.

I wonder if he was a pioneer in this method of committing crimes.

Maybe he did not realize the science of Geographic profiling was on the horizon but he did cause much confusion between police agencies that
did not talk to each other. This multi-jurisdiction crime strategy delayed all the jurisdictions from getting on the same page for months.

He may very well have scattered his crimes Shawn, in order to confuse. He did however commit the first two attacks within 4 miles of each other on a potential workday. Was he also misdirecting when he seemingly didn’t know he committed the first two murders in Benicia, placing Vallejo on the car door. I don’t deny he likely carefully planned the murders, but he equally should have been caught after the 4th attack. Even if he didn’t think he had been spotted after the taxicab murder, a wise criminal would assume the possibility of it happening and distance himself from the scene entirely.

So Zodiac was out to commit the perfect crimes? Then why did he leave witnesses when he didn’t have to, surviving victims when he didn’t have to, fingerprints and palmprints when he didn’t have to? I could go on and on. Oh, and Zodiac also provided his own handwriting. Yeah, he was sure out to commit the perfect crimes alright.

Didn’t talk to each other? You must be stuck with Graysmith’s first book as your only knowledge source. All of the agencies involved routinely communicated and shared information.

Hi Richard,

I already explained to you a few posts ago why he would have come back out onto the street. I did so in great detail using the facts of the case and Zodiac’s actions and non-actions. What more of an explanation do you need? You are now supposed to tell me where I made an error in my logic. ZODIAC’S ACTIONS THAT NIGHT PROVE PRETTY CONCLUSIVELY THAT HE DID NOT THINK HE HAD BEEN SEEN BY ANYONE. So why not come back out onto the street?

And BTW, you were the one who implied that the notion of Qvale coming back onto the streets was dumb, or said that KQ was not so dumb as to do that. That implies I must be pretty stupid to think otherwise. But I explained my position.
