I am working on sending a picture about the Pygocentrs Nattereri reference soon ,but In Cold Case files TV show about the Zodiac. Early on they stated that a park ranger was a prime suspect before being cleared . It was from either the lake herman rd. or Napa killings . Anyone researched info about it?

Nachtsider, Subject: Re: cold case files #51 zodiac ? Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:18 pm

Never heard anything about any park ranger.

Quagmire, Subject: Re: cold case files #51 zodiac ? Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:49 pm

Only park ranger who springs to mind (if I remember correctly) was Dennis Land who I think was first on scene at Lake B but don’t recall him ever being a suspect.

No, I can tell you, I came across the mention of a park ranger SEVERAL times in the FBI files as I sorted thru them. I think it was Yosemite park if I recall. There was too much info redacted for me to get any useful info.

Hmm. Most curious. While the cops might have cleared him, I’d be interested to know what put them on his tail.

I have gone thru that load of 1200 pages way too many times recently, but next time I look thru again, I wil lsee if I can find it. I cant remember how they got onto it, but it mentioned his very close resemblance to the sketch, along with some odd behaviors noticed by co-workers. They were using materials in his application to rule him out and I think it mentioned handwritten things on the application.

It is #51 cold case Files . I think it is the best Zodiac killer account video I have found ,they would pride themselves on getting the facts right I think . I have watched the one on you tube But I think it is shorter than the one I saw on TV and do not think it mentions a park ranger , but certain it did on TV also he lost a very large wristed watch at the Bates murder. I also think the video also mentioned a coworkers tip morf13

 I’m thinking alone the same lines, Nachtsider. Why, did the cops clear him? and why were they looking at this Park Ranger? etc, etc….[More info please]

Anybody here know about the feds suggesting a ruse to lure a suspect out of his house so the local sheriff could do a quick ‘toss’ of the joint? Long time back, but this was East Bay (north). Apparently the sheriff didn’t cooperate.
Got this long time back from Voigt. I believe the p.o.i. was a now deceased fast talker, who early on was high on the lists. :suspect:

StitchMallone, Subject: Re: cold case files #51 zodiac ? Sun May 20, 2012 2:21 pm

The only other ranger mentioned at Lake B is William White but he was older and don’t look like the sketch and plus he talked to Brain so I doubt very highly it was him. So the park ranger had to be from Lake Herman in my opinion.

I think I remember something about this. The ranger’s brother was in LE and was killed in a helecopter crash in the East Bay??? Does that sound familar? I can’t quite remember the name but maybe it will come to me.

Do you or can you direct me to these Fbi documents speaking of a park ranger suspect at Yosemite. Don’t agree with the whole park ranger thing but considering what I posted about "guardians of the Yosemite", it has rather peaked my interest. Just wondering why.

Oh and thank you soccer.

I just went thru all 5 sections of the FBI files, and the part about the yosemite ranger is NOT there. Some of the original FBI files are missing. I will go thru my hard copies and find the page and post it as time allows

They have rearranged them now,so section 2 is no longer the right one

Thanks for the link, I skimmed thru the files today but couldn’t find this, guess I missed it. I did find some writing samples from the ranger which I will post later, but it appears anyhow as if he was ruled out by prints

Here is more about the park ranger, and some samples of his writing:

That is just so darn odd to have so many references to parks, including Yosemite, and reading about a potential suspect from Yosemite not only being disqualified but apparently looked like him as well. Wow.

Has anyone noticed the "Zodiac Trail" in Yosemite?

A Google search turned up lots of stuff on it. Here’s one:

"This route was FA’d in November 1972 by Charlie Porter on his third attempt" what does FA’d mean? Also, it was FA’d in 1972, AFTER the z crimes. When was it first known as zodiac trail?

Here’s the story behind the name, from http://www.supertopo.com/rock-climbing/Yosemite-Valley-El-Capitan-Zodiac:

During the climb, several strange events occurred. When Porter reached the top of Pitch 3 he found a dead bird “upside down with its feet in the air” and dubbed the spot accordingly. More ominously, as Porter explains, “This was at the time of the Zodiac Killer, a serial killer in San Francisco. I would go up on the wall, come down, and find that he had killed again. His killings seemed to be timed with when I was on the climb.” This disturbing coincidence led to the naming of the route. Also, “It was that time when everyone was running around talking about the stars.”

I wonder what this ‘Charlie Porter’s’ middle name is? There was a Charlie W. Porter (current age 69)that lived in Vallejo for several years

Charlie Porter the mountain climber was born in Massachusetts in 1951, according to wikipedia:

The "Paradise slaves " is not in the book "Guardians of the yosemite". I provided the name of the book to you and anyone else who may have an interest in park rangers. Quite frankly, I see it as a reference to the "Peek through the pines card " and the card sent to Mary Pilker.

maybe then you could explain why to us you linked – slaves in paradice- to -park rangers- in that post ? I guess I don’t get it . If there is a mention of this in a book pryer to Zodiac killings I see it as a major connection . I only have an interest in 1 particular park ranger
